Hello everyone, I have been taking Zoloft for the past three weeks and just yesterday I started with severe dizziness. It's so bad I can't stand for a long period of time. Is this a side effect of Zoloft or can it be something else? I am currently on 100mg of Zoloft. I spoke to the doctor and he said to reduce it so 50mg. Will this help? Any responses would be greatly appreciated. I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder and anxiety distress. I'm only 24 yrs old so I am a bit worried that I might have something medical going on.
Thank you !
Dizziness and anxiety could go hand in hand.
Do you feel dizzy or are you actually dizzy?
For me, I felt like I would fall over if I stood up, but when I actually did stand up I did not fall over. It was perceived dizziness but not actual dizziness.
I feel dizzy because even laying down I feel like my head is so heavy and when I stand up I still feel dizzy. More like vertigo. But it only started yesterday because I didn't have those side effects before.
I was put on anti depressants once all I felt was dizzy when I stood up didn't help my anxiety. Can only sujjest may not be correct med. ask doc again. I tried two anti depressants and no good for me. Everyone has to find what helps them. I take small amounts of diazepam now which iionly television when anxiety is sky high. My great doc never gives me too many it's too easy to take anything that could lift your mood because obviously we would want to feel good all the time. Meds can help but too many can lead to future probs. On top of my anxiety I can't go through that again.good luck not nice worrying what's going on.your not alone❤️
Hello it seemed like it was working because I stopped crying. And having crazy irrational thoughts. But until now I started with this dizziness. I hope it goes away.
Thank you
Meant to say like another lady mentioned dizzziness can be inner ear problem( vertigo) worth asking doc.just seems strange it started when Zoloft startedto kick in. Don't worry that'll get to bottom of it if you tell them all symptoms. My mum has vertigo stands up and dizzy. As hell. ❤️
So good it was relieving some symptoms it's such a relief to find something helps. Please ask doc dizziness may go or b great if found something that helped other symptoms without dizzy.hope dizziness is temporary but doc will know don't leave to long if your dizzy a lot something's not quite right. ❤️
Well actually I did suffer from vertigo before and was given prednisone for it. My inner ear was the problem. The crazy thing is that due to the prednisone being so strong i developed depression and anxiety. Therefore the prednisone was what induced the depression and irrational thoughts because I never had a problem like that before. But I haven't had vertigo a long long time. Last night it went away but it came back this morning and stronger after the Zoloft.
You seem to have a good grip on your symptoms realising the meds for vertigo started anxiety etc. Seriously tell your doc exactly the same. Sure both can be treated. It's good your noticing the symptoms and not just panicking with anxiety . Keep a log( journal of when each symptom occurs and show doc. Sure you can get sorted .talk again if you feel down or anxious.❤️
When I took Zoloft I found that my anxiety symptoms were actually elevated for around the first month, or so. The medication itself can take the body a while to get acclimated to, and while it might seem odd that you're just now experiencing the dizziness, it's not outside the normal effects some people experience when first starting the medication. It seems most likely that these symptoms are related to your anxiety and the medication, I personally have felt quite dizzy before as the result of anxiety, and also as the result of medication. Having one such episode tends to lead to repeat episodes, because you enter a loop where your mind gets fixated on the sensation and your brain causes you to experience it again.
You can also talk to your doctor about it and see about getting some basic tests done, if that will put your mind at ease.
