12cm fibroid

Hi. Just got ultrasounds results back at PCP said 12 CM Fibroid on backside of uterus. My stomach is very tender and protruding, pain radiates to back when pushed on. Some bladder issues (leaking throughout day and ammonia smell). Some constipation issues. Sleep on heating bad most of night and anti-inflammatories every night. Also some leg pain on same side as fibroid. PCP said I can go to gynecologist if my day to day is affected. Are the symptoms I'm describing normal from a larger fibroid? Should I see the gynecologist?

The symptoms that you described can be attributed to a fibroid as large as yours at that particular location.  The question is what part of those symptoms seem normal enough for you not to go and see a gynaecologist, have you lived with this so long that you think it is okay to have bladder issues aand constipation, back pain and discomfort?

Your primary health care should have immediately referred you to a gynaecologist based on the results of your ultrasound and your level of discomfort that you had discussed with them.  Taking anti-inflammatories everynight is not good for the heart in the long term so something has to change.....YES, please see a gynaecologist immediately to get options on how to treat/ shrink/ remove the fibroid before your choices become limited by the size of the fibroid.

Definitely see your gyno! They're better equiped to handle fibroids like that. If it's hindering your day to day life there a many options for treatment that your gyno can discuss with you. Hopefully you can get some relief soon!

That sounds like you are in a lot more pain, more than most experience.  My stomach is only tender when I start my period. I do have bowel pain/issues due to pressure on my bowels.  I've heard bladder issues are common, I guess it would all depend on where the fibroids are.  YES you should see a gynecologist!  As I've discovered with a few recent minor health issues, no one is going to hold your hand and guide you to the solution.  You have to be your own advocate for your health issues.  I recently had a health issues where I had seen several specialist and they all thought I was a hypochondriac.  I was specifically asked by my last doctor if my issues could be "stress related".  I was just glad one doctor brought it up and asked me instead of dismissing my symptoms.  It turned out that I had a blockage in my throat that almost suffocated me. She told me that I was in a dangerous situation.  It was that doctor that finally discovered it.  It took 4 years and 3 specialists.  Do your research and don't let them push you around.  When I saw my first gynecologist he wanted to give me a hysterectomy right away.  He was not even aware of the new procedures that are out there and available.  I decided to see a second gynecologist and she was much nicer, but she was not aware of the new procedures either.  I did a lot of research before I saw her and I was telling her about all the options out there.  I'll try to reduce my notes and add it here.

Yvette061601,

I am glad you had ultrasounds taken but please do yourself a favor and see your gynecologist asap. You should not have to live in pain. Who sent you for an ultrasound? Usually Gynos send you for one

Can you PM me your research as it looks like your post may not appear as its on the waiting to be moderated. Ta x

Yes, see your gynocologist, as your fibroid grows your options can decrease. The issues you discribe can all be fibroid related. You shouldn't have a fibroid that size inside of you & not be under a gynocologist. Keep in touch with the result of your referral.

Thank you so much. The main symptom that's bothering me is the bladder issues. I always feel bloated, am always sore, and feel like I'm having me period constantly. At first I attributed all my symptoms to being 42 and a bit overweight but a 12 cm fibroid can definitely be causing these issues.

Thank you again for your reply. Made an appt with gynecologist for Tuesday.

Yes, thank you for your support. I made an appt for Tuesday to discuss options. I am 42 and don't want anymore kids, so not being in pain would be great!

Thank you so much. Yes, I have been having thyroid issues and weight gain and unexplained emotions for quite some time. I've realized that I have to keep pushing through and keep seeing people until we figure it out. My PCP said if it's affecting my everyday, then go see gynecologist. I don't want to make something out of nothing, but I'm starting to realize that the issues I'm having aren't normal and I keep needing to dig further. Thank you again. Going to see gynecologist on Tuesday.

My PCP felt a mass when doing my physical (and just pushing on my abdomen not even a pap). He ordered the ultrasound. My insurance doesn't require a referral so I went ahead and made an appt with a gynecologist on Tuesday to get her opinion and discuss options.

Thank you! Yeah, I figured that big wasn't just "nothing". I don't want to wait so long that it gets to big. Considering I didn't have it last year during my physical, I'd say it's fast growing.

How do I pm you?  I'm new on hear.

I'm not sure. I'm new here too. Let me see if I can figure it out.
