Hip groin pain gone but for niggly bits which i do think will go completely in time.
Today tho tried to be normal....ie washing, pegging out clothes, baking.
My knees tho especially on op leg and my back ached like mad.
The knees are preventing me from lowering myself by gently squatting rather than bending to protect my back but they feel so full and tight i cant do it.
After all this activity i went down the rd to post a letter and felt my walking was rubbish!
This comes at a time when should be going back to work but im afraid now i wont cope.
Going to see gp on weds and to ask for physio.
Am i a wimp? Or is this all normal. Im mindful to try normality but i dont want to undo all progress.
I am 11 weeks today ... anterior. I thought something was wrong with my surgery for at least 8 weeks. I went to see my doc at 3 weeks due to my worrying. Then again at 8 weeks. I felt like the pain in the top of my leg would never subside. But, it has, bit by little bit. Ten days ago, I finally went to PT and it has made a huge difference already. My doc told me "hips take care of themselves" - but what he didn't say was that all the ligaments, muscles, etc. DO NOT and they need attention, The manipulation they do, and the stretches they taught have made a huge difference. So, definitely ask for physio!
You definitely are not a wimp. I am 6 months in and still feel stiffness and tightness but can finally squat all the way down and harder to get back up, put on socks and tie my shoes. My right knee on op side was hurting when walking but better now when I do PT exercises faithfully.Still limping a bit as well. Someone said a treadmill could help with the limp.
You are definitely not a wimp. You have made progress but sometimes doing those 'normal tasks' can set you back and cause great pain. So take it easy, listen to your body as it is still healing. Most definitely have physio assessment and exercises to get you on track before going back to work.
Hi Sue. Read your post which sounded so familiar to me also 11 weeks post surgery and worrying. Great to hear that physio is really helping you. The physio is certainly a key to helping post op.
No this is normal it was a nit like my recovery l had both hips done one in dec last year and the other 8 weeks later in february. My 1st leg recovery was difftrent from my 2nd leg it took longer l was still getting and still am getting muscle pain at my scars now and then l also get back pain quite a lot which my doctor explained that my body was readjusting to new hips and my posture and walking woukd be diffrent. But its now over 5 months and the knee pain has been getting worse. I was trying to walk each day to exercise my muscles. But it was getting harder so l returned to doctors and they sent me for xrays of my knees and hips. I though by now l would be back at work but did not feel ready at all and sitting at a desk for 7 hrs a day seemed like it was going to be torture. But anyway l got my xray results back and l need both knees reolaced as it turns out l have OA on both the same as l had in my hups. Hopefully yours is not that and its just you are not ready to go back which is totally fine as people heal at diffrent rates and it can take from 9 months to a year to really fully recover.
I thought mentally and physically l was not ready so l never went back you will know yourself when you are ready which is obviously not yet hun.
Not sure about getting back to "normality" for me as I don't really remember how that was - I was in denial for a long time and slowly started to lose mobilty and pain increased ..
DId you do all those thing in one day? seems a lot of twisting and bending, lifting etc. and you might have overdone it a bit -
Knees are so delicate - they carry the body and move it, twist, balance etc.
I would like to give some hope to those of you who have recently had surgery... I had both hips replaced on the same day 18 months ago. I had physical therapy for 6 weeks (twice a week) and did all the exercises the surgeon told me to do. Today I am in Siena, Italia.... it is a city of hills, steep hills.... up and down up and down this morning I walked 11,250 steps and I feel great!
I am now in my 14th week, the last 2 my hip has really started to feel normal, my back however is a nightmare I went for my 1st physio yesterday and he was very reassuring and told me it was a compensation thing for having a 'normal hip' now. I agreed totally and his excercises were all based on strengthening the glutes and core, so now have about 6 more excercises to do... My knees are weak and cause me discomfort so am doing squats - loads of them. I am 56 (uncemented) and now back at work phased return did my 1st full day today, 2 weeks ago I though I will never make it back to work, so take heart and keep with the excercising.
