This is my 2nd THR. I'm 42 now & my first was at the age of 37. Same surgeon, same procedure, but I don't remember this itching!! I have steri strips & nothing else. I'm allowed to shower, gently wash the incision & pat dry. I was given the okay to leave my incision uncovered, I was having a horrible reaction to the tapes keeping the pad on my incision. I had zero drainage. Now the steri strips are starting to dry up & flake off (totally normal). However, the incision is itching like crazy. There aren't any visible signs of rashes or anything at all. It looks great! So far, all I can think of is ice packs! It works sometimes but right now it's 4:20am & all I want to do is scratch!! I won't but I'm about to lose my mind here!! I've been cleared from my home nurse & don't got back for post op until this coming Friday.

I had lots of itching too! I just tried to ignor it because I didn't want to hurt the scar. I to used ice packs to stop it. I found the more I moved the better it got it seemed to loosen the muscles a bit. 😊
I can offer no comfort, but the once packs may work
It is said that itching can be a sign of healing,
as you have no other sign of irritation. Are you
putting anything on the scar. I was told to put iodine
on, you should check with the pharmacy,or nurse, first of course.
this might help, or ask about anti histamine BUT check first.

Moving around just makes me forget about it! When I lay down to rest is when I notice it the most. 😊
Ice has been my only source of relief. Right after I shower I'm good for s little while too. 😊
I'm on a prescribed anti-histamine because of my skin/muscle disease. I do recall that itching is a sign of healing. Thanks for the reminder! Always good to know these weird things have meaning, I'll be glad when all of my steri-strips are gone. They are just flipping around & occasionally one will drop off. The incision looks great! I swear it's identical to my other one. Almost like he measured me so I have perfect posterior scars. Haha!
I'm 9 days post op with staples (28) & it itches & stings but that's part of the healing process. I have waterproof dressing on & gently rub my fingers up & down dressing when it's itchy. Staples out on Friday next. Maybe try ice pack in a pillowslip to numb area. I don't mind the itch as its all part of recovery. It looks like I have a zipper 😃
