Hi
Im hoping that if i tell my story then maybe somebody can help
Im 35 years old. Up until about 2003 i had perfectly healthy guts and normal bowel movements but then i suddenly began to suffer from extreme constipation and stomach cramps. Basically i would go about a week without a bowel movement and then wake up one night at around 3am with horrendous diarrhoea.
Eventually i began using suppositories on a daily basis which allowed me to have a bowel movement more or less every day. This stopped the diarrhoea although i do still get it ocassionly . However i do still get cramps every day and i never feel i have fully emptied my bowels.
i have continued like this for the past 10 years dealing with pain on a daily basis but as i now have a child i feel that i need to figure out a way to make a significant improvement.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Have you been to a Dr to discuss this? I used to have bad constipation but took fibre supplements to help but i find cramps can be set off with a backed up bowl or eating certain foods which produce gas. I can get a lot of pain from certain foods. Have you tried the fodmap diet to see if this helps? or a food Diary to see if certain foods trigger something?
thanks for the reply. i have been to several doctors over the years but they all push mebeverine which makes no difference to me. I have thought of a food diary but my symptoms tend to start in the morning so its difficult to tell if its something ive just eaten or something ive eaten in the past couple of days.
It could be IBS. However, go and see your doctor for tests and a medical diagnosis. When you are diagnosed, you will be offered treatment.
Mebeverine seems to be the drug of choice for doctors to prescribe. However, a lot of people have problems with it and find it does nothing or irritates their stomach more. I had to come off it after 4 days because it gave me terrible indigestion and constipation. I didn’t even finish the first slide of tablets. I tried Buscopan because it had helped my brother’s IBS and it really helped me. If you are diagnosed with IBS, ask for Buscopan instead.
I also have these freckle like spots just on my torso nowhere else. They dont itch so the doctor said not to worry but i wonder if they could be due to an intolerance.
food intolerances are a key factor in digestion issues. i have ibs-c. Even though my allergy test was negative, i found out through process of elimination that i have severe food intolerances which ate different than allergies. its a long road to figure it out but i’m seeing some differences after months of playing with and eliminating foods.
