2 weeks postop

hi all...had thr 2 weeks ago tomorrow. Am doing well..walking easily with my crutch and climbing stairs with ease.  My only complaint is the swelling of my op leg..sometimes my other one too. Not painful..but a little scary .  Called my doctor and he did not seem to think it unusual.  Has anyone else encountered this?

Yes Molly I had it for 2 weeks and see I have recorded it reduced day 15. The wound are is still tender and swollen and tomorrow is 4 week birthday but it lessens daily. Still unable to sleep on it. Sleep improving but still on back as requested.

It will get better

Hi molly, completely normal, the op leg does swell all the way down, due to the op, but don't worry it will go down in time, maybe a couple of weeks. You may also see some bruising, again normal and will go, if you get sudden severe pain then you need to contact your medical team.

Yes I had it, its quite normal and I think it was 5 weeks or so before it went completely.  It used to swell up during the day and go down during the night.   Some people take longer than others for the swelling to go, but it will go eventually.

I had very little swelling but what I did have went down when I slept with legs slightly raised .

Thank you all for your replies..feel much better about it now.

Thank you Christine..and everyone else..feel so much better about the swelling...doesn't hurt...just looks frightening

after 6 weeks i still have major swelling ; (

It will improve Dawn, good excuse for feet up. Tonight I have a little ankle swelling but under normal conditions I get that in warm weather and today here in the South East corner 24 and quite a tan on my hands where they are holding the crutches - sun screen tomorrow to prevent the age spots. We will all recover eventually. Wish sleep was easy

Hi Molly, I,m 4.5 weeks and strggled with swelling in the op leg from the start, but now not my hip or thigh, its my ankle and foot thats still swollen the skin is tight and very sore to touch, called the Doctor last week and everything was ok, but still swollen and sore. !!!

Wow Molly just 2 weeka and you are walking with a crutch and doing stairs with ease.  I have been told to use a walking frame for 6 weeks and have help with stairs.  That is amazing, swelling is a natual part of the healing process and unless unbearable pain should not be cause for alarm.  Did you have anterior or posterior surgery.  I notice here that most people have a ceramic joint.  Mine is metal and feels heavy.  Best of luck with your continued recovery

Well done molly! Everyone has different levels of healing! I am just over 6 weeks, still have bruising on hip and sore! But it will ease! I need to rest more! But being Hubby's carer its not easy! Although he has carers in each day for another 3weeks! Good luck regards Amanda

Hi Brian..yes..that is where my swelling is..foot and ankle

Hi Isabelle...thank you! I should mention that although I am using the "good foot ...bad foot" method when I do the stairs..still a breeze and since I live in a two storey townhouse, I use the stairs a LOT!

Yup I'm almost 3 wks and my thigh and knee is still really swollen and

Tight it gets worse by evening and seems to go down a bit by morning. It's not painful just feels heavy
