I am so sorry hazel. ..

did you have it checked out? is the area swollen, or hot?

do you have a temperature?

I don't think you're should be interesting so muchness pain ...

Hi Brittini,

I have had many, many total joint replacements eventually they integrate and feel like you were born with them.

Many different hips are available today...my neighbor left in the morning a couple if months ago and returned with a walker later that afternoon! Last week I passed by his open door...he was up on a ladder changing the battery in a beeping smoke detector!

28 means your younger body, your more toned muscles will work to your advantage.

28, 2016-17 and you will officially become known as a hippie!

kind regards

judith

Hi,

No just one at a time and my hip surgery is scheduled for the 29th

Hi Brittini,

So the 29th you will officially become a hippie...were you given any exercises to do in preparation for the surgery?

kind regards

judith

I am 30 and just had my left thr done due to avascular necrosis from steroids for asthma i was in a similar state before the operation but what kept me going was the thought of the things i would be able to do again after with out alot of pain and just being able to walk with out a limp and pain. I am just coming up to 4 weeks post op best decision i have made been up and about quite a bit been out to the supper market and a few other local places yes it slowed me down for the 1st week or so but i keep doing more each day already had a few people comment its the best i have walked for years. I had a spinal epidural with sedation was grateful i did i have had a general before and your grogy for a while after not with the spinal. As for painkillers the only thing i have now is naproxen morning and night and paracetamol every now and again when i feel i need it nothing like what i was having before hand tried most painkillers even morphine at one point non of them are any good for bone on bone pain. People have asked me if i would have it done again now i have an idea what it entails 100% yes! Your life will be better for it after best of luck

Thanks for replying. Thanks for the positive feedback. It is helping me stay optimistic and believe this surgery will actually work. After trying every medication and therapy they recommended I was ready to throw in the towel on my poor hips. I know this is only my first surgery of many on the hips, but with time hopefully i can regain my normal life and forget i even have hip problems

Lol yes on the 29th, you can officially call me a hippie. No exercise before surgery, only a packet of things to do before surgery...like give blood, get a physical exam...those type of things. However at this point in time...I can't really do much exercise. I tried physical therapy and i couldnt even make it past warm ups because i couldnt ride the bike...even water therapy hurts my hip. The only thing that actually help eleviate my pain is accupuncture...and that is just to help me walk with a limp..Some of you guys probably been in pain longer than me. But being an athlete my whole life and then one day you wake up and your leg can't support your weight. It has been total hell. So i hope in a few weeks someone can say they saw me going up the stairs and she looked good doing it lol

I'm learning that 28 is not that young...even though all three of the ortho i met with said i was too young for a THR...None of them wanted to do it. They would tell me i need surgery but i should try rest first..i should try physical therapy...cortisone injections...i should try accupuncture...i should try prp treatment..water therapy...i tried everything except the prp injections because my surgeon was honest enough to say that actually will not work...on my left hip maybe but not on my right. My right hip is completely collapsed. Reminds me of the apple logo. Looks like someone took a bite out of my hip. So im going to go through with knowing im going need to do it again in probably 20 years and probably in another 20 years and in another 20 years..

I was lucky in a way my consultant specializes in young hip replacements tried cortisone injections they did nothing he tried to put me off having it done a bit but like he said he has to but if he was in the same position he would have it done so he didn't put up much of a fight

I only used walker a couple of days and then on to 2 crutches for a week and then 1 crutch for a week and on to cane. Have had both hips done now and was same for both with walker etc

Hi Brittni,

I had I hip replacement one month after 28 birthday. And trust me it was the best decision I ever made. Except you been you again been happy, pain free , independent. Don't be scared in 4 weeks you will feel and the result.

I am telling you this because. I know how os feel when you get that call to confirm the

I know how it feel when you know it about to happen just me sure you do your research ask all questions the number of operations how long it gonna take what are risks...

And good luck 🍀

Hi Brittni2103,

I've just joined the forum having had a total hip replacement of my left hip last Thursday.

I'm 29 years old, and finally made the decision to have the surgery having lived with the after-effects of a slipped upper femoral epiphysis and subsequent avascular necrosis aged 13. I've struggled through the years with a fused left hip, and pretty significant daily pain, on the basis that I was always a bit too young to have the operation. That said, I've never let it hold me back. However felt like now was the right time to get it done.

I had the operation at 10am on Thursday, and was discharged at 11am on Saturday. I opted for the spinal anaesthetic combined with a form of general anaesthetic so as not to be awake in any sense during the operation. Once I woke up post-op I found that I didn't suffer any adverse effects to either, feeling fully awake and aware quite quickly. The spinal took a few hours after this to wear off, which is when I started to experience more pain. This can be managed by a combination of other medication, that others have mentioned on the forum.

I'm now at home (which brings a fresh set of challenges), partial weight-bearing on crutches, up and down stairs and spending time between walking, sitting and lying down. The big difference for me is that the deep-set hip pain I've had for years has completely disappeared, and has been replaced by post-operative swelling and bruising which is more uncomfortable and tight than a 'pain'. The tightness in my upper leg is probably the only thing really bothering me at this stage and a reduced level of pain relief after leaving hospital.

I'm taking each day as it comes, trying to stay positive and sticking to my exercises. I think it's going to be a long road to recovery, but looking to the longer term improvements in my quality of life.

All the best for your surgery, you are young, but certainly not the only one out there. Good luck,

Chris

Hi Brittini,

Sending warm thoughts for two hips and no more...

Not just any 28 year old get to be a hippie...if it were not for the scar I don't even think of it any more. Now it feels like I was born with it.

Ya know...if you do those post op exercises well. .your butt is going to look good too!

no, no,no...medicine is advancing exponentially...who knows. maybe we can be redone correctly by a 3D printer...

Omg yes...i just finally had my surgery yesterday...and they prescribed Oxycondone for painkillers and i have literally been scratching all over...where its hard to get any rest past 3 hrs...i believe my body is immune to painkillers because they simply do not work or i look like a druggie scratching all over..besides oxycondone..percocet...tramadol...norco...what else can i take for pain

Hey patricia, just wanted to keep in touch. I under went hip surgery yesterday...so as i typed this i am still laying in a hospital bed. Besides having to beg the night nurses for better pain meds that dont make me itch, i will have to say surgery wasnt that bad and i freaked put for nothing. Even regional anthesia wasnt that bad...my only question for u is what kind of pain meds worked for you...excluding oxycondone, tramadol, percocet and norco
