Hello,
In late February 2026 I received an IV iron infusion. I was ok (or at my normal state at the time) for a day or two, but then I started to feel unwell, worse than before, including bone pain, tingling in arms, weird head pain, worse fatigue than before, upper back muscle pain, and a general feeling of being unwell. I returned to the doctor about 3 weeks later for a follow up blood test which showed my phosphate levels had dropped. I knew nothing about phosphate so followed her guidance on taking phosphate supplements for 1 month, hoping my symptoms would go away. My levels stabilised but my symptoms were mostly still there. She never specifically told me the iron could have caused the drop in phosphate, I discovered this myself with readings. I thought maybe to give it a few more weeks after supplements to see an improvement, but then in May I began to get upper abdominal pain. Never had this issue before. I returned to my doctor and she ordered an ultrasound which showed results were normal. This put me at ease a bit, but my abdo pain would come and go for the next few weeks. Now, over the past month, my symptoms like tingling have increased in intensity, including the upper abdo pain, vomiting and headaches. I went to the ER in early June but they did nothing helpful, basically making me feel like everything is anxiety once they ruled out stroke and chest infection…
I don’t know what to do. My ferritin is still elevated - 525 (normal 30-300) my ALT and AST are raised following the infusion, yet somehow my abdo pain is not being attributed to the iron. I feel like there is too much in my body or something!!
It feels like agony dealing with this. My life is torn apart right now.
