Hi, I have since 4 months pleural effusion on my right side too.
Thy did 37 different blood tests and they were all negative, they drained the fluid twice and tests came negative on everything too.
I had 3 CT, one from abdominal and chest, second one from Lund and the last one from chest again.
I also had a cystoscopy ( was painfull) and upper endoscopy with both of them were fine.
The doctors send me to Thoracic Surger and go inside with camera to take a biopsy and I hear that this will be very painful after the surgery/biopsy.
I also saw a Chinese acupuncture since 2 weeks and he is giving me some natural medicine, don't know if this would help.
Does anybody has any idea?

I had this before they discovered the ten lb. ovarian cyst in my abdomen that was creating the fluid. The surgery thoracoscopy - they went in with a camera and to take biopsy, which came back negative - and left me with a tube draining from my right side which I had to empty a couple times a day and keep track of how much fluid was produced.... yes it was painful, i had the tube for more than 2 weeks, and i still have pain on my right side from it 2 months later...

Didn't you have an abdominal CT to show the cyst? And how did they find out about the cyst?

Yes. I developed the fluid around my right lung and had the first drain at the end of March. I had the thoracoscopy surgery in mid-April - they went in with a camera, took a biopsy, and stuck a chest tube in me. I had the chest tube removed at the beginning of May, felt even worse, so went to the emergency room where they did an abdominal CT scan and found the cyst. I had surgery to remove the cyst on May 10. haven't had any problems with fluid since!
Wow, Howe could they not to do the CT before they did the throcoscopy, some doctors are....
I got second opinion from another pulmonary specialist and he said I should not do the surgery and take prednisone. He also wants me to see another surger to get the second opinion.

Keep me posted. Second opinions are good things. I did go for a second opinion to a pulmonologist in another town about an hour from here (I live in a rural area and the doc treating me here is a thoracic surgeon, not a pulmonologist) but he just confirmed everything the other doc had done... he did order a ct scan but only of my chest, not abdominal, and not with contrast... I still don't see how they both missed the fact that the diaphragm must have been pushed up by the mass in my abdomen. I think the pulmonologist did say something to that effect in his report, but didn't follow through... i had to go to the emergency room to get the CT scan of the abdomen. Glad i did 'cause i kept getting worse, not better...
I had this and yes, it was painful... and they left me with a chest tube to drain the fluid which was also painful i had that in 2 1/2 weeks ...
