5 wks post op & think I've over done it..🥴

Hiya my fellow hippies…
It’s 5 week today for my TLHR and think I’ve over done the walking yesterday  was going really well up to yesterday and then after a day full of walks I got up Thursday and the hip area has been really painful and just feels like I’ve gone back a couple of weeks. So I’m guessing I should listen to my body and take it steady for a couple of days yep

Pete

Having been very active from day one and healed very well I remember going back to work at week 5 and it was a bit tougher than I imagined and was a bit tender. To be honest I just kept pushing on and discomfort passed . People do tend to feel any ache or pain or be more aware of it after the surgery and think the worst. I felt the same after doing a 10k run at week 7 and didnt do another for about 3 weeks as I just wasnt 100% ready . I'm week 13 now and no issues at all . keep the chin up and persevere

wow. following full hip replacment, 30cm scare. well done you. amazing. keep going.

do what you bod@y tell you to do, rest. everyone is different . Im four years pass TRHR and it is having to be done again. i have had nothing but pain 24/7.
so rest up, start you walking again. if discomfort doesnt get any better go back to your surgeon. good luck.

Hi Pearlmonkey I got to week 5 myself this week ,where does all that time go ! i been building up each day walking 5 mins more each time , then last weekend i decided to do 12 more mins the next day , did it ok but when i got home didnt i know it hip area felt pretty sore so as so many people on here have said listen to your body and do the right think so next day i rested most of the day just did my stretches and then the next day all was well again and am back to my walking pain free. hope yours has settled down too flocker

Dawn

why is it needing to be done again if I may ask ?

my surgeon says its something to do with muscles never healed correctly, i was fine for first 5 months, then it has got weaker & weaker with pain 24/7. anything the means lifting the leg, like walking up stairs, getting into car etc. the list never ends. i have hardly any lift in my leg. I feel it happened when i sat too low in a shop changing room. will find out whats going to happen on 22 November. He saying full opp again.

Hi Pete,

Take it easy, you are not in a race and not going to get a medal for super quick healing. You have already had one so know the drill. Good luck with the rest of your recovery. 😀

This happens. I did myself in running up and down the 60 steps on our very steep plot when a pipe burst. ( plumbing, not mine!) It took several weeks but now I often forget I ever had a hip job.

A general question to anyone ..I am 16 days post op...doing o.k I think...main problem sleeping (or not really!!) on my back...last two night have resorted to putting pillow under my knees ! which I know is frowned upon because of blood clot risk....however, I still wear support stockings 24 /7 for a further 3 weeks also taking blood thinners...it has made such a big difference to my comfort and being able to sleep ! I phoned the hospital and they seemed to think o.k, although they werent very reassuring ! Has anyone else resorted to this...I 76 and pretty fit...

hi jilly i surrounded myself with pillows to keep more upright and another under my knees just to remove some of the pressure and another smaller one between my legs cant say it greatly improved my sleep but far more comfy and relaxing , do what works for you at the time

Hi Pete, hopefully just a temporary set back. I had days like that, particularly when I first started back at work.... take it steadily, have a bit of a rest. All the best, Judith
