Thats great Scott your doing so well. l recovered really fast from from my 1st thr so fast that after 4 week l was begging to get the 2nd done as l felt so much better. Same age as you now l have had both done and am 13 weeks post 2nd op and l can walk a few milles. I drove from scotland to york last week and back again every day l can do an extra bit.
But like you one thing that has never got any better is my sleep. I go to bed every night but like clockwork l wake at 4am or 5am sometimes earlier. I have to get up as l am stiff and sore. I find my comfort on the couch so since my 1st thr l go to bed and wake up couch thts since december. And l have the odd bad week l can get really down ìthen am fine again.
Hopefully one day soon l will wake up in my bed and be totally fine.
Good luck to you Scott
Please don't ever feel bad about posting! We "pre-hippies" need to hear good stories too! Thanks for the wondeful post! Makes me not so afraid and hope to have a similar experience as you!
Hi Scott,
I'm glad to hear your recovery went so well. I'm now 2 weeks on and have not had any problems so far. Hopefully I will continue as you did. The sleeping thing is definately an issue and I really hope it gets better sooner rather than later. I'm up about 3-5 times a night just now. Very frustrating.
Enjoy the gym! Cant wait to get back to it myself.
David
Lol
Yay Scott!!!!!! What super news.
I am not doing as well as you but doing okay at 14 weeks. Just the regular aches from my other hip (THR likely late summer) and pains as the rest of my body adjusts to my new hip, posture and gait.
I know I was not very fit pre-op (partially due to extended period of pain with both hips) but physio and other home activities post-surgery have truly underscored this for me and I am working hard to be more fit before the next operation.
In any case, I was really only writing to congratulate and thank you for this super update. It is good to hear.
Merci Linda, bonne chance pour ta deuxième opération.
Good to hear you are doing well Scott. My op is 8th June & I love to read success stories x
Scott that's brill, I am 56 but my fitness was rock bottom so building it I'm 7weeks see surgeon Monday so hope restrictions lifted. I saw my GP this week and he said that I could be a year with the sleep thing........ not good like you I have no pain at night just waking up all the time but I am still back sleeping with occasional side sleep. Keep up the good work but don't overdo it.
Happy to see you've had a great recovery so far!! I go back to work on June 1st...hope I do as well as you!!
Congrats Scott...
Ha ha true then you would end up with a difftent problem as well as your hip. Steer clear of doing that every night. Lol
Hi Scott, I too today had my 6 week post op check up (in australia). I am totally pain free and only have a bit of scar discomfort but finding it better with a bit of massage. I am still doing my physio Programe in rehab not sure for how much longer.
I too was literally in the doctor office for a total of about 20 min he looked at my xray, scar and a bit of movement. He was very surprised that am I no pain and doing what am doing on a more complex hip surgery compared to others.
He clear me for driving whoo ! Am also excited about getting fit again he said am only allowed to do swimming, cycling and something else.
Am happy to be able to 'sleep' on both my sides even though I haven't been sleeping much either no pain I am just can't get off. Unfortunately I am still not allowed to sit on my comfy couch and have to sit on a un comfy chair still for another 6 weeks grr!
Hi Scott
Thank you for sharing ... how sweet of you to be so thoughtful about not sharing how great you are doing !!!!! Are you kidding me ?????? it is great and no reason to defend yourself for doing so well - Picture perfect ....
are you allowed to sleep on your side again?
I am very very happy for you ...
big warm hug
renee
I echo Renée's comments Scott - very nice of you to be concerned, but my goodness, good news for you is a win for all of us!
I have one suggestion about your sleep problem – I was a frequent long-distance traveller in my career and occasionally used melatonin to help regulate my sleep when travelling between time zones. When this sleep issue continued for me, I tried one tab of melatonin sublingually one hour before I wanted to sleep and it helped tremendously. You might ask your physician whether there any risks for you – just might help (I hope so).
Linda
