I saw my Surgeon today for my 6 week follow up since my THR.
He was hoping to lift my hip restrictions but decided not too. He said that my hip should be about 10% flexible but it is 20% which means I have a better chance of dislocating while I am healing. Have to wait another 10 weeks and he will reassess. He mentioned that I will alway have to be more careful. He made my leg 3mm longer as it will give me less chance of dislocating. Also I will need the other one done in a few years and he will make it the same length as the other. In the meantime you cant really tell. Interesting to know if anyone else has been told the same thing?
I had my hip revision almost dislocate after my hip restrictions were lifted so follow what he says and do be careful for at least a year after. regarding the leg length, I had a half inch discrepancy but I just had my other hip done and they are now the same length. Take care and good luck.
Shari, hi my hubby had first THR in 2016, second one in 2017. What your going though is very normal. You really have to pay close attention to not dislocateing that hip. Your body takes a full year for those bones to heal with that steal they put into you. So don’t be a hero. Take the time to heal properly. A year seems like forever but it will be worth it. I know I watched my hubby. Don’t let spouse’s or anybody get into your head you should be a lot better too soon, everyone heals differently. Make your spouse do the work. I did everything from cutting the grass to cleaning out the gutters, to pressure cleaning the house, and work 10 to 12 hours a day, and did the bills cooking, laundry . And when he looks at me and says thanks, makes me cry. So say thank you a lot to your helpers. Your get there don’t worry. Best of luck. Yuki
Thank you Yuki! I have to admit I do too much. My husband is great in helping but sometime things are just easier doing myself! You are completely right amd from this morning I will ask for more help!! Thank you!!! Shari
Shari no problem. I did a lot of research when he had his THR I knew what he was up against. I talked to the doctors. I didn’t want to put any pressures on him to heal. It takes a total of a year for those bones to heal around that steel, and you dislocation is real higher the first 3 months. So make him take care of you or it’s back to the hospital. Don’t play around and be a hero stop. Take care of you!!!! If you need anything let me know. And when you can walk, walk, walk, and ice , ice, ice, and rest , rest rest! I make him do it. I also make him take middays naps. Get better baby girl.
