9 weeks post op pain front thigh non operated thigh and back

I  am worried that 9 weeks post op new symptoms keep cropping up. Today, front of thigh has sharp pain non operated leg, low back pain, both hips hurt, pain in my butt where gluteus median is. Is it because I overdid massaging and exercise of the glute yesterday?

All standard symptoms of healing. How I looked at these symptoms is that my hips had been out of balance for years due to a major accident when I was young. Suddenly all is back where it should be so the joints are adjusting to the new positions they are in. Especially lower back and the non operated leg/hip.

THR is a pain it he caboose. It takes any months for the bone to grow into the components and secure the implant. 

It takes a few weeks for the intense pain to lesson thru exercises and therapy.

the best part about THR is that you will have your mobility back and feel much better about the surgery as heeling goes on.

be sure to take your pain meds at regular times if needed. Your only 9 weeks out.

i have had three THR each one is different depending on many variables one shape, muscles and tendon at the time of surgery.

its frustrating to not be in a pkave where you can still do all the things needed. I wore cloths that went over my head and put everything up no matter how messy it's just temporary. Whatever you can do to make your life easier for now is a big deal. This is all only temporary. Sometimes the strain and stress of struggling ti get around takes a toll on our bodies. Ask for muscle relaxers from ur doc or take anti inflammatories for your body has gone thru major surgery and so much . Just getting thru this sometimes can take a toll on our bodies. My back , knees other leg, shoulders, neck  all took a toll in recovery each time. 

In a few more months from now as heeling moves on you will be glad you had THR as most of the residual pain tends to get better. 

In the mean time I totally get how it can be so miserable at times. 

Have you finished therapy or tried water therapy? Mabe too you just need a couple of days to rest . Take one day a a time. Always do those caboose squeezes they help strengthen the core muscles that help hold us up!

Thanks a lot. It's reassuring to know that you named all those body parts as that's where everything was hurting today. Not gone but better now. I am still seeing the Physio every 2 weeks. I will talk to him about water therapy when I go next week. I did take a Robaxacet today-muscle relaxant that has Ibuprofen. Haven't been taking any pain pills since week three. 

mHoly crap, you had 3 THRs! Hope you are all healed and feeling good.

Nearly 12 months since my hip replacement and it is truly amazing! I'm 60 and feeling 10 yrs younger, no limp. A little secret. I did no physio at all! Just walked and practiced walking correctly with a good step and posture. Worked for me. I even can sit cross legged without doing any stretches. I thank my surgeon (in my head) regularly. He is a wizard.

Oh and I am off to Bali in a few hrs so will miss any more communication. Can't wait to have a holiday after a big year as all of us hipsters understand...

Too funny... Yep 3 THR. Started out early. Anyway glad to hear your getting to a better place ans soon it will all be behind you!

great responses to your question - you are recovering from major surgery and start to feel better ... around this time it is very easy to overdo it - 

so listen to your body , make sure you rest adequately - 

Did you have your follow up appointment ?  Maybe some restrictions were lifted and your body might not be completely ready ... are you walking unaided ?

are you limping? Some of us, like me, need support with walking a bit longer than others - 

If something doesn't feel righ and you are worried, please contact your surgeon -

better safe than sorry

caboose = buttocks - 

squeeze the butt-cheeks together -

you can do these exercises anywhere, anytime and doing them pre-op will help with recovery ...

thanks for the warm welcome. Glad to be a hippie or hipster along with others as the support already helps. Your responses are also helpful to me. No, I haven't seen the surgeon for follow up. Where I live in B.C. Canada, I am in a smaller community so my follow up is with my M.D. as needed. I have seen him 2x only, first to get the staples out and then at 6 weeks as I was worried so got an x ray and all was good in terms of the hip not being displaced. Here my physio is the go to person. I am seeing him every 2 weeks, so 5 appointments so far. I am afraid he is going to stop seeing me next week and then I am on my own. 

Yes, I am still limping, using one crutch for walking outside.

good advice from you about the rest and restrictions. We just moved so I think I may be have been overdoing the bending with the golfers stance to put away books and other stuff.

maybe your PT can show you some stretching exercises. ...

I'm in Ottawa and had much posterior THR in late Feb w another planned for Sept. All the readjusting going keeps going on for a while but i think it is actually a good sign ... that you are adopting better posture and form walking.

The milestones for recovery are all so individual and dependent upon our condition at surgery. So while some of us can get away without any physio, most of us need it to really progress.

I encourage you to keep working w your PT and to discuss what activities of daily living can contribute. For example, the stairs to our basement and my office are really great for me so I was adamant that I could fetch things from there whenever something was needed and I walked to anyplace reasonably and if it was a bit farther I used my walker - this actually helped me lengthen and smooth out my gait to reduce limping.

The OS warned me that the other leg would start to hurt more after the surgery . Indeed-it has hurt a great deal more. Its catching and just very painful. Very frustrating. Be careful not to overdo it as you will suffer for it. Dont forget ice,elevate and what ever you take for medication

Its good to hear that gait improves over time and know that it's normal to limp for awhile like when one is tired.

are you having your other hip done? You are brave moving from adjusting to one major surgery and then having a second THR.

Yes, true about those milestones being individual. I think the pre surgery is not necessarily predictive of how post op goes. I was in pretty good shape before playing Pickleball but then I having been limping for 4 years.

Haha! You have uncanny insight Renee about those 'light boxes.' I actually pushed and pulled them over. Thanks I will ask the PT for some stretching exercises. Walked fairly straight today and balanced, on my operated leg and lifted it. So there is progress.

sorry, one day I am a basket case and cautiously optimistic the next day. Gonna go for 2 days in a row.

Wierd weather this year .. a couple of days of late fall temps then full summer heat then back again. Oh well at least there is no ice or 🌨!

My PT emphasized heel- toe walking, walking tall and trying to lengthen my stride. These, along w butt clenches really help smooth out your gait and eliminate the limp. Early on she encouraged me to continue w the walker as it helped me concentrate on these instructions - esp to lengthen my stride.

Might be worth a try.

Thanks for those tips Linda. I will work on getting back to doing the butt clenches and the heel to toe walking. Yes, the walker is likely more effective for the balance part than than the single crutch.
