I was just wondering if anyone further along than me can say when they thought all the swelling had gone down. Maybe this question is a bit like 'how long is a piece of string' but it's just a question I have rattling around in my head.
My ROM and pain are okish now except I do get the RLS sometimes at bed time which is very annoying but compared to the pain in the first few weeks it's bearable.
Left leg still puffy, and increases 2.5-3.5cm when standing during day at week 17. Right leg swelling gone week 12 but gets a little around knee standing during day about 1cm but it doesnt feel bad. I noticed biggest change from week 10 to week 12. Activity didnt flare it up as much. I mean, after i was on treadmill, before that, i would have to break and elevate. Now, i can keep doing other things.
Best part is IT DOES GET BETTER! YEA!!
That's WAY faster for swelling to go down than I expected:-)))) I've bought loads of trousers thinking I won't get into my old ones for over a year (by the time I've had the other knee done too, hopefully late summer). Now I'm wondering LOL!
Mine is still a little swollen i am 12/13 post op.Still get the stiffness more in the evening. Hope you go on ok.cheers.
I am at 11 weeks and I do not have swelling but I sure have stiffness especially if I sit or stand in one place to long...
You made need them. Because one common theme about this surgery is EVERY ONE IS DIFFERENT! LOL. But, i like hearing the input just to gauge generalities. Your positive attitude is great!
Well they'll do even if the swelling goes down sooner LOL! Yes, that's the biggest thing I've learned on here - just how much each operation can vary with after effects! Even if you've had one knee done you really can't begin to assume the second will be the same, can you! I live in hope LOL!
I'm 14 months post op and still have some swelling and numbness
I am undergoing a six session course in hydrotherapy which hopefully will get rid of some of the muscle weakness which I presume is causing the swelling
It's been a nightmare- the whole thing
I've lost all
My energy
Mary,
It does drain us all. Its one time in life my stubborness is REALLY helpful. R leg has a numb spot size of quarter, left is numb but just started getting major improvement this last week. It was 3cm above and below knee but now only just the knee cap.
Im grateful my job let me ease in w 6hr shifts instead of 12. I came home and crashed.
Sending you hugs. Hang in there!
:D
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and words x
16 weeks I still swell if overdo exercise or walk more than a mile. I have beven told by my surgeon can expect swelling for up to date 12 to 18 months from the op. If you have RA will still get soft tissue swelling.
Everyone is different I guess. I think my constant swelling improved by about 12 weeks but as I say above still get it.
It's amazing the unanswered questions post op but it's impossible for them to tell you everything pre- op. I keep a diary of exercise, progress, medication etc and at the back list questions for next appt.Sounds OCD but I rate it!
I have found this forum excellent especially the posts of Chico Marx and Old fat guy who are the Demi - God's of bone carpentry!
All the best, Jan
I'm at ten months, still swelling obvious, but not so bad as it was.
just taking a long time.

Ali I'm 9 weeks post bilateral and still swell. I went back to work this week and I find swelling has increased. Darn it! I guess it depends on what we do?? N
15 weeks. Less than first 8 weeks but still significant and gets real nasty if I overdo it.
I am just wondering when I will be able to wear My JEANS again😜😜. I am a total t-shirt and jeans kinda gal but right now the baggier and softer the better!
I'm also 9 weeks post tkr. Still goes solid and swollen if on it for too long and not moving. But as everyone on here agrees everyone seems to have different healing rates. Met woman yesterday, prob about in her 40 who had both knees done at same time 2 years ago and was pretty a back to normal in 3 weeks --- ruined my day!! So we're all different frustrating though it is!
Reception rather than the rule I belive!! It's sickening but happy for them 😊. All rheumatologist best.
16 weeks still.baggy or skirts . Scar still purple at the top but waiting for the white tinge. 😊
Milla - a girl after my own heart:-))))) I found some wider leg jeans on one site and ordered four pairs (well I've got the other knee to be done yet!). Just being in jeans again is wonderful - it's normality! They are soft too. If you want to know where they are, give me a shout. They are in the UK and USA. Look a bit 'retro' but I can live with that! I was devastated when I suddenly realised all the jeans and trousers I'd bought over the past couple of years wouldn't go over the knee, maybe for a year, so add the second one to that and it was going to be a good year and a half possibly!
WOW - three weeks back to normal re swelling????? Did she use pressure bandages or something?
