I have already posted on someone else's feed but i didnt want to divert the help away from someone else who needs it. I have always suffered with anxiety but i have always been able to manage it....or so i thought! Im not one for going to the doctors as im not keen on the idea of being medicated. I have a relatively high powered and stressful job and whilst im sure it does contribute to my anxiety i find work more of a welcome distraction. It almost keeps me sane! But recently my anxiety has increased ten fold. It's like im in a constant state of panic which physically is exhausting! Half of the stuff i worry about is totally out of my control but i literally have got to the point where i cant cope with it anymore. Is there anything i can do? Is there anyone i can talk to? Thanks in advance for and advice!!
Sorry to hear you're suffering so much with anxiety, I know how awful and all-consuming it can be. Going to the doctors can be helpful even if you don't want to take medication. They may want to do some blood tests to rule out physical conditions that sometimes cause anxiety. They may also be able to refer you for counselling. Having therapy such as CBT can be really helpful for anxiety so perhaps this is something to consider. Personally, I have been looking towards my diet to try and cut out or reduce things that may worsen my anxiety levels such as coffee and sugar. Take care x
Thank you for taking the time to reply! What is CBT therapy? I know i need to do something drastic! Funnily enough due to Migraines (which is probably anxiety related) i have cut caffeine, sugar and alot of dairy out of my diet already! I must admit its frightening how much its taking over my life and i just cant seem to find someone that really understands the severity of my situation. Well it seems serious to me. Its really getting me down 😢 x
Hi Hayley, you really should go to your gp and tell him how your feeling. I know exactly how you feel life's so hard when you feel like this, some days I can hardly get out of bed , it's so lonely and frightening to feel this way . I feel sometimes I just want to go away on my own and give up on life but somehow I drag myself out of bed and try to muddle through the day as best as I can. It's hard but keep going you can do it ❤❤xx
Hi Hay...... I know exactly what you're talking about! I have suffered with anxiety for as long as I can remember but I have finally learned how to get it under control. Don't do what I did which is waste over 20 years of my life living in fear. It's just not worth it. I'd like to share with you some of the things I have found to be very helpful…
Some of which may know especially pertaining to you, but I send this out to people suffering from anxiety. The audio meditations have greatly helped me! They are explained below…
After visiting your doctor and getting things checked out, you need to get this anxiety managed. Over the years I have learned how to manage it.
1. what I did was first of all speak with a counselor. They see this on a daily basis and have the tools to help you manage this. Anxiety and stress is difficult to manage on our own and it really helps to talk to someone else. I keep going even when I start to feel better because it's like a lifeline for me. Find a counselor you feel comfortable with. Some counselors will use CBT which is cognitive behavioral therapy. That helps you see the anxiety for what it is and it helps you manage it. If you ever really feel out of control and can't manage, seeing a counselor would be the first best step!
Remember....FEAR stands for false evidence appearing real. Which means sometimes when we have symptoms we think they are related to some terrifying disease, when in reality the odds are much higher that they are not. Our minds will go to the negative if we let it, so we must be in control.
Don't let fear take you over! Be a fighter for yourself!
2. Secondly, I go to Google or YouTube and look up hypnosis for clearing subconscious negativity. You don't really get hypnotized it's just a really great meditation.I put in my earbuds and lie down and listen to them. They teach us to separate our thoughts that are negative from ourselves. This is something I think could really benefit you!! They completely calm down my brain and body to the point where I almost feel like I'm floating. This is such a great thing to do for your brain and overall health. I do this a couple times a day specially when I'm laying down to sleep. There are MANYto choose from just pick the ones that you like. They have them on anxiety, depression, getting a good nights sleep, etc. There's also positive affirmation ones that are helpful too. I play them in my car and while I take a walk. The more you listen to these the more your brain and subconscious will believe them in the better you will feel
it will just calm everything down when you are having an acute anxiety attack
if you're having in acute anxiety or panic attack, you can go to YouTube and search meditation for panic attacks/ emergency
3. Stay active! The worst thing you can do is sit around and think too much about all this. It will bring on more anxiety. As well as the symptoms. When I exercise my body completely calms down and the symptoms often go completely away.
4. Stay social! This helps keep your mind off your worries. The less you are alone the better at least until you manage your anxiety. Just do things that you enjoy.
5. When feeling anxious or anytime you'd like, do deep breathing. Breathing through your nose for about five seconds and make sure your stomach rises. Then exhale through your lips as though you're blowing out a candle slowly for another five seconds. Do this as many times a day as you need to. It helps if you're lying down but you can also do it's sitting.
6. Eat healthy! Stay away from processed foods especially sugar. Sugar has an inflammatory response including in the brain. This will just increase your anxiety and can possibly bring on depression.
As horrible as anxiety symptoms are, they CANNOT hurt or kill you! I have had them for many many years on and off and now I pretty much ignore them but I do try to stay as healthy as possible and do those six things I listed above. The meditation audios really are excellent please try them and do them often !
You will be fine once you get this under a little control. You will have a long great life and you deserve peace and happiness.
When you get a negative thought entering your mind, don't try to fight it off, but instead acknowledge that it's there and then visualize it floating off on a dark cloud. Your negative thoughts or Fear filled thoughts are not a part of you! They are simply thoughts and that is all.
Don't let fear take you over! Be a fighter for yourself. Fear is based on non reality.
Seriously consider speaking with the counselor also!
hope you feel better soon!
That's right about the coffee and sugar, also alcohol. I go to see a nutrition specialist who aso is a Reiki Master. She does up to 2 hours of meditation (she also teaches it) every day. She is soooo calm and peaceful but says she could not function without her meditation.
The best form of medication is daily meditation.
Really helpful post.
Until quite recently, I was practising meditation daily but for some reason got out of the habit. It does do wonders though, you're right, and is well worth commiting the time to each day, especially if you suffer anxiety.
Yes I was doing it every day and my life felt so much better. I was interested in life again. I don't know why I stopped it but I did a few months ago and went for comfort in wine which has got worse. Does the trick at the time but all of a sudden anxiety has come back. Obvs the wine so I am knocking is slowly on the head and starting back on meditation and running. I felt alive months ago, now feel like rubbish.
Hey and meditation and running are free.
Awful this rubbish we deal with - but there are ways around it.
Take care.
It's funny how we can be our own worst enemy at times, inclined to reach for the stuff we know won't help & drift away from healthy habits that make us feel better. I feel loads better when I exercise regularly, yet still I have managed to get out of the habit again. This conversation has refocused my attention on those things that will benifit me though, so I will try to make more effort over the coming weeks ☺.
Thank you so much!! 😊
Sooo scary sometimes. Literally scared to do stuff just in case something goes wrong. I am going to book a doctors appointment. Is there private options for CBT? x
