Resultados anormales, altos y bajos de laboratorio: ¿Debería estar preocupado?

Should I be concerned with these results?

I recently had a panel of tests after complaining for years that: I'm feeling extremely tired, unable to sleep (I'm  writing this at 2am.), losing my hair, nails constantly tearing, and just Exhausted from chronic pain, muscle spasms and lethargy.

(Keep in mind I've always felt something was wrong, but since I "look healthy" (I teach fitness classes part-time) Dr's would just say, I'm "depressed" all the time.  I even gave in, and took Wellbutrin, which made me feel numb, I hated it, and it didn't help at all.

It wasn't until I finally paid for an outside Dr. to review my results that she added more tests to the many, I feel my Dr's just ingnored.  However, the new Dr. seemed stumped as well, and placed me on a low thyroid medication I just started, but doesn't seem to help much.

Now  after reading online, I'm afraid of the side effects of the Thyroid medication.   Should I go off it?

***Here are my test results, and "ranges" I was given by the lab:

1.  MTHFR, C677T = result: Homozygous, NO Range given, However flagged with A = Abnormal (?)

2. Vitamin D, 25 Hydroxy Tot. = 28,  Range:  30-100ng/mL

3.  Uric Acid = 2.3   Range: 2.6-6.0 mg/dL, Flagged with L (Low).

4.Prothrombin Time = 13.8  Range:  11.8-13.5sec,  Flagged as H (High).

5.Homocysteine=14.8  Range: 3.7-13.9 umo/L,  Flagged as H/High(?)

6.  GGT = 90, Range=5-55 U/L,  Flagged as H

7.  Free T3=2.23, Range: 2.3-4.2pg/ML, Flagged as L-low(?)

8. DHEA Sulfate = <15, Range: 15-170 ug/DL

9.  Vitamin B12 = 1226, Range:  211-911 pg/mL, Flagged as H

10.  Thyroid Perox AutoAb = 37 ,  No Range given, just say  “IU/mL”, Flagged as H

**Not sure if these, should be considered, but other tests taken showed:

11.  Cortisol = <1.0  - NO Range given only shows “ug/dL”,  NO Flag (Should I be concerned?)

12.TSH = 1.9,   Standard Range given:   .34-4.82 ulU/mL,  NO Flag

13.  Free T4 = .99,  Standard Range given:   .99,   Standard Range given:  .59-1.61 ng/dL

14.  I recently had a Cortisol Random test and it cam in at <1.0, but gave me no values to compare to.

15.  Prior to this test I had a Cortisol, "Post Suppression test" which came it at 1.0, but again no ranges were given.

I even saw 2 Endocrinologists who said they couldn't help me!

Can you explain the difference in Tests?

What are normal ranges for these tests?

For some reason, I feel the Dr.’s I've seen thus far, must not have paid much attention, as these are a lot of "Flags," and they just said nothing to worry about.  However, they spent very little time reviewing my tests with me, and just kept telling me to take antidepressents!! (which infuriates me, as I'm NOT Depressed!!)

Should I get another opinion

And what Kind of Dr. should I see?

I have been feeling extremely fatigued (I am tired, but can not sleep at night) I am not worried or anxious about anything.  My mind is clear, although I tend to forget a lot lately, and I think it's because of the lack of sleep!!  I want to sleep, but can't!, and sleeping pills make me so groggy in the Am.

I’ve read a bit on line, that has me a bit concerned, but don’t want to seem like a “hypochondriac” either.  I feel my Dr.’s already think I am one!

I began complaining about my weight gain, lethargy, lack of sleep, and just not feeling myself, etc; almost 10 years ago!  However, even though I eat well and exercise, my symptoms have progressively gotten worse with time.

Should I be concerned with these results?

Do the results combined add up to a diagnosis?

What type of Dr. should I see to interpret these results and accurately guide me to getting and feeling myself again?

Could these results, cause OsteoArthiritis?  As I was just diagnosed with it in my hip, and the Orthopedic Dr's are talking Hip Replacement!!  (and I'm only 50 and Fitness is my passion!)

Should I be concerned?

It's impossible for laymen to comment. Weight gain might suggest low thyroid activity but you've been tested for that. You sound like a healthy person, physically and psycologically. Only specialist doctors could give you an accurate diagnosis, so you need to persevere in the same way. Sorry I cannot be more helpful, but I wish you luck.

Your DHEA is low. Read up on that too.

All my responses are being Intercepted. Too controversial. Big Brother!

Thanks for emailing me. I'd love to hear if u can make any sense of all these tests and what they "may diagnose" if viewed together?

Hi, You said the Dr put you on thyroid meds, if it is thyroxine why don't you carry on taking it. It takes a couple of weeks to get in your body and if you do have side effects they can't be worse than you are feeling now.

If your thyroid is low it can cause lots of symptoms such as thinning hair, tiredness, can't sleep at night, dry skin, constipation and more. At least give them a try.

I have been on thyroxine for 4 years and feel better. Before I went on them i had the above symptoms and wanted to sleep all day and had no energy.  Good luck.

Hello,

It sounds as though you are going through alot and hopefully will find some resolution soon.

Although it can be frustrating to be heard, there are times when there is no fast answer. I think it would be a good idea to keep looking for a Dr. until you find the one that can help you.  So hang in there and hopefully it all goes well. Aside from that I'm not really sure about your test results. Any one I know that has taken thyroid meds generally feels better once they get the correct dose.

From your symptoms I would suggest that you might need to see an endercrinologist. As I don't know your age and with suspected osteoarthritis I wonder if you know of any autoimmune diseases in your family. If there was Rheumatoid Arthritis your blood would have flagged that up but not Psoriatic Arthritis as that is seronegative. Again because I don't know your age, were you able to have children easily or did you have complications? Have you always felt anxious? I'm NOT suggesting you are depressed, but feeling anxious could be related to many causes as could the insomnia. I would look at POTS UK and see if anything relates to you. If not I would return to your GP because not sleeping properly can cause anxiety. Your body may be out of balance due to the insomnia

Different labs and health authorities in the UK use different reference ranges, but your vitamin D has come up as below range on the test ordered by your doctor.

Your symptoms are entirely consistent with vitamin D deficiency and vitamin D deficiency osteomalacia (adult rickets), particularly the fact that you are complaining of extreme fatigue and pain in your hips, which is highly indicative.

Your doctor can offer you a high dose vitamin D supplement to resolve this and encourage your skeleton to remineralise. At the very least I would advise you to ask your doctor why he/she has not offered a supplement for your low vitamin D. Do look up vitamin D deficiency and the symptoms of osteomalacia for yourself and see what you think!

There are threads on here for us poor vitamin D deficient cripples. Look them up and let us know how you get on.

All best wishes,

:-)

Do you know if the OsteoArthiritis they have found can be reversed by high doses of Vitamin D?

Well, the question is, is it in fact arthritis or is it osteomalacia? I think that's a question worth putting to your rheumatologist now you have that low D result.
