Hi Diane,
I have suffered with this since having THR on both legs, it drives me nuts! Not found a cure as yet so cannot offer you any solution. I hope you manage to get it sorted and please post on here if you do. Good luck.
Thanks a lot sue for reply ,I know really gets you down just don't know what to do with legs when they start
Hi Diane
I would gues {having had 2 THR's myself} that you arent comnfortable because you are still sleeping on your back
As for the aching legs......muscular? not pain?
A hip replacement is major surgery......they are not to gentle when they are doing it When the nurse came to check muy dressing I mentioned aching legs to her and she said....you've never seen a THR being done have you? {Of course not} she then went on to say they aren't to gentle and your leg gets shoved out of the way while they are operating or sometimes practically thrown over your shoulder
. She went on to say your muscles will be sore for a long time but remember its only muscle not arthritis pain anymore and it will go.

I have only been 2 weeks, only have soar muscles in operated leg at times. I do streaches to help get the knots out.
Diane,
I am now 9 wks THR. I was having horrible muscle spasms and leg cramps in my operative leg at night only. Coincidently, when I stopped taking the narcotics (oxycotin and percocett) at two weeks post op, my spasms and cramps stopped that very night and I haven't had a problem since. I guess I was having a bad reaction to the drugs. Once I quit taking those drugs, I used an over the counter PM medicine to help me sleep. Such as Tylenol PM.
Good luck,
Kathee
Hi Diane, I had my surgery about 1 year ago and yes does get better once you start physical therapy you should get some relief . Try taking some magnesium at night really helps relax your body. Your body been threw alot need time to heal. I had revised total hip replacement last year took me almost year to heal now im dealing with nerve pain. Hang in there it does get better
Take Care

Hi Diane,
This aching happens to me too in the night and sometimes during the day if I have to lay around because of the other types of pain I suffer. I agree it can be muscle spasms, but it acts more like bones and joints aching with all over shooting nerve type pain.
Sometimes I just feel a jolt so sudden and strong that it causes my body to jerk and that usually hurts!
Do not know if there is help for the nerve pain but there is help for the muscle spasms.
Keep on keeping on,
Dawn
Hi Dawndee, yrs there offs medicine for nerve pain called Gabapentin. It's prescription med.
I still have nerve like bolts of lighting.hurts a lot.
That prescription takes the nerve pain away.
My legs ached at the end of the day I used take some paracetamol and go to bed early I couldn't stand it. Think mine stopped aching about 9 -10 weeks.
