Aciclovir - is it really bad for you?

Hi there, whenever I have a break and contact my doctor about it, I'm prescribed Aciclovir 200mg and have to take it five times a day for five days. My recent outbreak was a fierce one and didn't clear up after the five days, so I carried on for another four days. So in total, since being diagnosed six weeks ago, I've taken a total of 19 days worth -  95 tablets!!

Should I be cautious about taking these tablets? I try to treat my HSV-2 holistically, but the tablets (at the moment) seem to be the only thing that nip it in the bud effectively.

Hi Scott, thanks for the reply!

What sort of things about Acicylovir made you so against it?

I too am a true believe of prevention is better than cure, so thank you for that gold dust piece of information

Stay away from the doctor and medication, I only went to the doctor once for mine, I realizes that my outbreaks clear up faster without medication.  I'm using holistic to cure myself. I'm my own experiment. Start on a mostly raw diet, avoid sugar and or any other stimulants, coffee, chocolate ect, start taking lysine supplements. Let me know how that works out for you.

I took lysine during my last outbreak and it basically stopped it dead in it's tracks then healed super fast, highly recommended.

Keep your body's ph balanced or even more alkaline than acidic. Acidity in the body creates nervousness, anxiety, which is stress, abc stress will trigger outbreaks.

Good luck

Hi there, this is where my issues lie. I've never been a hugely unhealthy person - I only indulge rarely.

Since getting diagnosed six weeks ago I did alter my lifestyle to try and cater for the new Herpes way of life. I've started taking 2000mg of Lysine a day, Echinacea, avoiding caffiene/cutting it down to just a mug of green tea, upping the amount of Chicken in my diet, getting good amounts of sleep.

However, I've basically had a continual breakout for the last six weeks, it has only improved in the last couple of days after taking Acyclovir for the last 9 days - hence why I'm eager to find out what potential health risks this could be having. I feel like I'm in such a catch 22 situation at the moment with this!

Thanks again for your help smile

Lysine is an amino acid that your body can't produce  naturally.  Only contained in certain foods, or supplements, and health food store will carry them.

Another thing I've used is humic acid, it worked wonders for me in preventing outbreaks. It's a powerful all natural anti viral which contains copious amounts of vitamins and  well as over 80 trace minerals. I've used to topically and internally.

I'm looking to order another all natural product that has the potential to eliminate the virus from my body . I'll let you know how it works out.

We are all in this together as far as I'm concerned and if I can help someone else I will .

Hello Rebecca,

I have HSV-2 and during my recent pregnancy I was advised to take acyclovir to minimize the risk of an outbreak near/during labour so I could have a natural delivery, I had never taken it before in all the 5 years of having GH, I'm pretty anti drugs unless I'm in dire need and I obvioulsy was wanting my baby to be born healthy no matter what, so I took it for about 8 weeks before he was born, I must admit it worked wonders for me, I was used to suffering outbreaks back to back and I too eat healthy food mostly but do enjoy the morning coffee and the odd choc bar here and there, but the drug stopped my outbreaks completely and I could eat what I wanted, the only problem with the drug was it nailed my kidneys, my urine was so dark and strong smelling (sorry, I know its not very attractive) I knew it was no good for my body but I didn't want to risk my baby catching herpes as they can die from it, so in a way I was grateful for the drug but I wouldn't take it without good reason, if you are able to I would avoid it unless need be.

Since having my son, I stopped taking the drug (I breastfeed him and can't take it while doing so) I would have probably continued to do so until my stiches healed (the joys of motherhood lol) incase I got an outbreak and they spread. Now since somebody on these forums mentioned eating fresh pineapple everyday stopped them from having outbreaks I have been doing that and I have to admit it has worked for me, I have noticed if I skip a day or two I do get an outbreak but if I stick to eating it everyday without fail I don't get an outbreak, I buy two organic pineapples a week it costs me over £30 a month but its worth it.

I use Acyclovir 400 ml two a day everyday. Really all medication is not exactly good for you in one way or another but that seems to be the only thing that works for me as well. I have tried the holistic route also, using doterra melaluca and lavender,  but I don't have the time to use them 3 or 4 times a day. If Acyclovir is working for you I would keep using it, but you could always try these oils because I know they work just not as quickly.

Hi Scott, I use copious amounts of L-Lysine when I feel an outbreak coming on and take 2 - 3 mg per day but at the moment have ongoing stress and the Lysine isn't helping fully. Are you in the UK? Thanks.

Naturalcure - where do you get humic acid from? I've also read that pure oregano oil, rubbed into the lower spine with a carrier oil, is also good at fighting the virus in the area where it hides. Needs to be Origanum vulgare oil, not one of the other oreganum varieties.

I order my humic acid out of Vancouver BC Canada as I live in Canada out a company called The Goodly Company. I also use a product called fulvic acid as well

For my stress I take valerian root extract.

Good luck

In what form did you take Lysine pls??

Hiya, I take 1000mg of lysine in tablet form a day - sometimes 2000mg if symptoms are stirring. If you're from the UK I picked up the tablets from Holland and Barrett smile

Hi, I have ordered the lysine tablets and vitamin b complex as well as vitamin b12 to boost my immune system to fight off this virus!

What is the natural product that has potential to eliminate it?

Hi Cath, I take 2 000 mg of L-Lysine a day to prevent outbreaks and when I feel one starting I up my intake tremendously to about 16 000 mg for the first two days and then cut it down to about 8 000 mg a day for the next two and then right down again; I find this keeps the outbreak down to about 4, at the most, 5 days. I know that a lot of people think it's overboard but that's what works for me.

I have recently been diagnosed with HSV2 and have been prescribed them tablets also from my doctors. Reading all these comments is a big help and I am also going to look into some of the other remedies that have been listed. Thanks it has helped.
