Hello i had been discharged from acute pancreatitis a few days back, now I'm not in much of a pain or anything. I won't even consider alcohol in future now. But I'm concerned that whether the pancreas will heal completely as it was, if yes, then in how many days, and i have been hearing about recurrent pancreatitis, what would cause that..?
Alohol, smoking, diet. My first acute attack was from drinking and I spent a couple weeks in a coma. I was fine after that until I started drinking again. I finally got sober but not before it turned chronic. My point is that if I would have done the right things after the first attack I probably would have never had another issue with it. The alcohol, smoking and fatty foods are the biggest triggers
Well, sorry to hear that you were in coma, thats too extreme. What was the reason that put you in a coma, i never heard of that before. And may i know what were your amylase and lipase levels. And what did the ultra scan report say about your pancreas, so that i could compare with my reports.
My lungs started shutting down shorty after I became unresponsive and I went into cardiac arrest 3 times. Once all that happened they started giving me a medicine to keep me in the coma and was placed on a ventilator. My lipase was just under 4,000 but I don’t remember the amylase score. The ct scans back then were showing damage and inflammation of course and some fluid collection. About two months after the attack there was another scan done and it looked much better. There was permanent damage but the inflammation and fluid had gone away. Now a few years and many attacks later my scans are much worse. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. Everyone is different and I am no doctor but I have been through a lot with this so I know how much it can help to just be able to ask questions
What kind of damage was described about your pancreas into the ct scan report, could you please elaborate?
There was damage to the head of the pancreas and several ducts had narrowed. The general function of the pancreas had decreased so I’ve been on enzymes ever since. I wish I knew more detail but to be honest I don’t. I would have had a normal life at that point
What all things should be avoided to prevent this in the first place?
Alcohol, smoking and fatty foods are the big things. I know some medicines can cause pancreatitis too. Genetics are also a factor. My father had it and I was just tested and it’s in my genes too
Medicines cause it too?? Plz tell me which ones..
You can look it up online. I see commercials on tv that mention it. I’m not sure which ones and I think it’s rare
