Acute sinusitis help

Hey all,

I’ve been diagnosed with acute sinusitis about 3 weeks ago.  I have dizziness, pain above my eyebrows, sometimes my cheeks, pain in my neck and the back of my head!!!  Can anyone reassure me that they have also felt like this please as I’m not convinced that it might be the right diagnosis!!  Surely it should be getting better now!!  I’m on amoxicillin (day 2 of the course), steriod nasal spray (been using for about 3 weeks now) & betahestine (for 3 weeks that has done absolutely nothing)!!!  TIA x

Hi Chelle,

Unfortunately that quite common symptoms. I had 4x7days antibiotic course which did help a bit. Now 1 year after first occurrence I'm still struggling. Symptoms are returning every month and last for approx 2 weeks Im currently waiting to see ENT specialist. Antibiotics should kick in after 4 days but it may take few courses so be prepared. Steroid spray is only to keep inflammation down. Keep appointments with your doctor to continue antibiotics treatment if needed. Your GP may prescribe different one to try out. For additional support you can use sinus rinse and sea salt inhalation . This helps a bit.

Good luck.

Mike

I have this chronically since the start of peri. My frontal sinuses are not affected much, but the sigmoid and inner ear is. It does not seem to be bacterial it is allergy related and lasts all spring-summer-fall since I have multiple allergies. I never had any of this before peri. I use sprays, nonsteroid.

So sorry that is acute sinusitis, try a saline wash out twice a day, this will  help keep your sinus clear.

Hi Chelle,

I just read your post and have the exact same symptoms since I had a cold 7 weeks ago. I have no congestion, just pain and pressure in my eyebrows, cheeks and experiencing vertigo daily. The doctors have put me on prednisone, which I had to stop due to a rash, antibiotics and Zyrtec daily, with still no relief. I recently was told last week to try Nature’s Answer Sambucus, which is a black elderberry syrup. I have been taking this twice a day for a week and feel better than anything else I have tried. After the third day I started getting some congestion and drainage, and feel 80 percent better than I have had in a couple months.  I was very skeptical but I promise you this has helped me so much. I have been reading about it and can take it daily from now on to prevent this from happening again. I constantly am getting sinus infections but this one was the worst.  I have been so depressed by these symptoms and now with such great results from the Elberberry I had to share. Please let me know if you try it and how it works for you. I took two teaspoons of the syrup twice a day and will go to once a day from now on. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for the advice Kate, I really really appreciate it!! X

I’ve just ordered some :-) thank you x

I really hope it works for you!  I was like you thinking I was the only one with these symptoms and getting really down.   Keep me posted!

You are Welcome.

The best cure is a Neti pot and saline water sprays. I have to lay down after I use them, because the phlegm seems to be able to escape only when I am in supine posiyion. I also use a homeopathic spray from Europe-Euphorbium, which works wonders in opening my sinuses and is non drying and non addictive. I also use accupressure on my face, head and neck when the congestion is acute.

If you don't start feeling better after a few days in the antibiotics, that probably means it's a viral sinus infection not a bacterial one. Only about 2% if sinus infections are bacterial, but doctors often will still prescribe antibiotics even if they aren't sure. I have been dealing with a sinus infection pretty much the entire month of February. Took amoxicillin for ten days with no change, sinuses got worse and a different doctor prescribed augmentin. That made me feel awful. Sudafed has helped a bit but if you have sensitivity to those kinds of drugs, try a low dose first. Stuff like phenylephrine and pseudoephedrine give me anxiety attacks. Definitely flush your sinuses, lots of liquids, lots of rest, humidifier. You aren't alone!

Thank you for your advice Meredith!  Thank you for taking the time to reply!!  I’m wishing you better soon also x

Hi,

Are you better now? I am just the same as you! For about 3 weeks my nose has been blocked and I have terrible pains all over my head as well as ear pain. Dr wouldn’t give me anti bs as said most sinus infections/inflammation is viral so he gave me nasal spray. He has referred me to ENT as I have nasal polyps. I feel so bad with the head pain though and like you just think he must be wrong as I thought sinus problems meant thick discharge, high temp etc😢

Hi Chelle,

This is exactly what I'm suffering from I've had it for 3 weeks now - been signed off work for nearly 2 weeks - I'm in a really bad way with this - dry mucus/ dizzy spells seems to be no end to this for me - I just wanna feel like myself again. I'm worried I'm going to have to go back to the dr's again Monday to be signed off for longer - work is going to be so fed up with me .

I noticed this was 2 months ago have you recovered? if so what did you do in end for recovery?

Thanks
