correct me if i’m wrong . acyclovir helps clear ob’s & valacyclovir deceases the chances of getting an ob ?
They both do the same thing (treat and reduce outbreaks/shedding).
Hello Tasha,
I can confirm that acyclovir helps clear ob's not sure about valacyclovir....not familiar with that one. Maybe it has another name.
i knew what acyclovir was . but not valacylovir until Monday . now i’m confused on which one to use .
now i’m confused . is acyclovir not a suppressive therapy ? i had an appt w/ my OBGYN due to me having BV . i told her that i had HSV2 . she asked was i taking any suppressive therapy meds . i told her yeah , acyclovir ( which the nurse from the health department prescribed me w/ ) she said no , that’s not the same . valacyclovir is a suppressive meds that you need to take to decrease the chances of you having an ob .
acyclovir works as a suppressive therapy. I suggest you google valacyclovir to see how it works or ask your doctor.
i explained above to Feliz about what my doctor said .
Oh the other one is Valtrex. You can take either. Valtrex is usually taken daily to prevent ob and acyclovir is taking to suppress in outbreak in my experience.
They both do the same being essentially the same drug, and both are equally effective. Just that valacyclovir is newer and can be taken less times a day, and costs more as a result. Never heard of the distinction your ob/gyn made. You can Google yourself. Check the CDC site.
i had my first ob September 2nd of this year . it lasted a week . & i haven’t had one since . do i need to go ahead & take the meds ? or wait ? if so , which med would be better . i’m still new to this . & don’t know a whole lot .
Depends. If you're single and not having sex, or in a relationship where your partner also has it, then you don't need to take anything unless outbreaks are very frequent. If you are having sex with negative partners, then besides condoms, you should also consider daily suppressive therapy with either acyclovir or valacyclovir, whichever your budget permits and works best for your. They are essentially the same drug, as noted before.
