In March 31st, 2016 I broke my wrist in Texas and my husband took me to St Luke for emergency, a lot of pain, X-Rays,imobilization until get back to Michigan. On April 9 in a clinic (Holland) MRi,X-Rays again, the doctor told me the bone was broken but in it place, and a long cast. from my hand to my arm. After tree weeks , new X-Rays, new cast, bone displaced (peharps due the cast was not tight, new cast and the doctor in while the cast was drying he force the radius replacing it back manually. After two weeks, the pain still horrible, I visit him and nothing was done but remove the cast and give me a splint with velcro; no decision like surgery, too late, too bad. I movwed to another team in Grand Rapids, new opinion. It was all wrong said the doctor. They put me on a new splint, molding in my arm, . I`ve been with less pain (77 days later}but I cannot use my hand, a lot of exercices in order to get some flexibility, my fingrs stiff and weak. Waiting for doctor`s decision next appointment. Diagnosis: Code Diagnosis S52.552Q Other type I or II open extra-articular fracture of distal end of left radius with malunion, subsequent encounter S69.82XA TFCC (triangular fibrocartilage complex) injury, left, initial encounter .
Now, after five month, without surgery, my fingers are still stiff, I can do some work at home, sometimes it hurts, my left hand looks like crocodile hands because the displaced bone. At night during my sleep time I need to be careful and I still dealing with some pain.
I don''t know why the first doctor didn't perform the surgery.I am not sure that I would be better though, after reading so many discussions. I realized that once tyou break your wrist you are not going to be better without surgery or after surgery.
It's rare to see someone happy and fucntioning 100%.
The doctor told me that surgery is not a solution in most of the cases. That is sad!
