All HIV Symptoms but tests negative

The last 5 months have been a complete night for me. I became deathly ill following a potential exposure to HIV through unprotected sexual contact.

I had all ARS symptoms including severe muscles pains, headache, sore throat, inflamed lymph nodes, nausea, pins and needles in arms and feet and oral thrush.

i then continued to develop many other symptoms including: joint pain, extremely dry mouth, mouth sores/ulcers, recurring sore throat, vaginal thrush, petechial rash (little red dots all over body), weight loss, vertigo, constipation, liver/spleen pain, geographic tongue, vibrating sensations throughout body, pelvic pain, irregular bleeding/missed periods, metallic taste in mouth ... the list goes on

I am still suffering from oral and vaginal thrush, geographic tongue, various aches and pains and liver/spleen discomfort 5 months on.

I have tested for HIV at 4,5,6,7,8,9.5,11,12,14 and 16 weeks after the incident all negative using a combination of testing methods including 4th generation duo test.

I really feel helpless now borderline suicidal as I am 100% sure I am infected but the tests have not yet picked it up. I am considering a DNA PCR but have been putting it off due to the financial expense and my doctors will not do it for me.

I should also note that my doc ran a CBC during the acute illness which showed a significant drop in my lymphocytes.

Please someone help/offer support/guidance as I am desperate. The anxiety and depression is too much to handle.

No, 4th Gen HIV test is good to give you a conclusive at 4 weeks post exposure. At 12 weeks if you are negative, it only means that you do not have HIV.

No, your symptoms are unspecific to HIV ARS. Practically, a negative with a standard antibody test - 3rd generation or earlier post 6 weeks would give you conclusive. Therefore, 12 weeks or 3 month wouldn't make any difference.

You have conclusively tested negative, you don't have HIV. this is someone reply to me am in the same situation with you but also know that anxiety can cause all those symptoms you mentioned and I will tell you that HIV is not you problem as you tested negative outside the window period... I didnt develop symptoms like your but I am trying to keep calm still have 4 more days to complete my 12weeks window period. go for a general body check up cause you don't have HIV and HIV symptoms last for about two weeks

and Most of your symptoms are based on the last stage which means Aids symptoms so you don't have HIV period calm down

It takes like 4 years or more to get AIDS. Your own stress is causing you to feel this way. STRESS can significantly affect your body and it seems like you are beyond stressing yourself. THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO, can a deep breath and don't think about it. Wait for more exams, but don't put more than any thought other than scheduling it and thats it.

Hi thanks for replying,

I cannot shake the fear given the multitude of symptoms I have experienced - I know anxiety can worsen existing symptoms but it cannot account for the persistent fungal infections I am currently suffering from.

I really wish I could trust my test results, but it is very difficult to move forward when your body is saying one thing and your test results another. I don't believe there is any other explanation for all of this. I am a living nightmare.

I'm sorry you are also having a difficult time. good luck with your next test and keep us updated.

Hi Chris thanks for the reassurance. I know I am making things worse by being in a constant anxiety driven state, however there appears to be no other explanation for my illness which occurred 3 weeks after the incident. I truly believe I will eventually test positive, it's just a matter of time :(

your own anxiety is taking a toll on you so calm down and think in a different direction.... I was once paranoid like you even when my girlfriend tested negative at 6 weeks I tested negative at every test I did up to the 10week and I know my test will still be negative at 12 weeks. I was really on the edge and nearly committed suicide but then I started sharing my worries with my girlfriend and that how I have been taking things calmly up till now I still think about HIV and I get scared and my anxiety level increases and I will start surfing the net and ask HIV experts about my chances and the told me my negative results are accurate way before my last test at 10 weeks but I should go at 12weeks if I am still worried which I will go and get tested in 4days time. I might even go before the 4days cause waiting is like walking on bunch of needles ... so please calm down and take care of your anxiety ... I know what you are going through cause I am also going through it... calm down cause no matter how many times you test it will still be negative... at some time I start thinking I have developed skin cancer another time it's mouth cancer so please calm down and go get a general body check up cause you don't have HIV

I am living an example for you. I am in 3yr mark from the day of exposure. Continously tested negative for a year. after i stopped testing, believing the test made me better.

but i am sure your stress level increased and your immunity has gone down as me in 6 months. I even had more symptoms than you, to protect for those symptoms you got to be in diet for 2 months especially to keep you away from candida . There are tons of people same like us even more than 20yrs, :). Trust the results work towards your goal, forget this.

Candida infection will get you fungal and bacteria infection. those are opportunistic one, eat healthy & do exercise like yoga, breathing etc. remember i am 3 yr mark senior to you :) the symptoms you said are just 50% of my symptoms, try to get ready to heal your stomach and your swollen veins.

im in the excact same boat but have more symptoms too

Hi Carl what symptoms are you experiencing? I'm beginning to lose all hope

"I have tested for HIV at 4,5,6,7,8,9.5,11,12,14 and 16 weeks after the incident all negative."

You have conclusively tested negative and certainly over-tested. You do not need NAT or any further testing for that matter.

Your symptoms are unspecific to HIV ARS and has great resemblance to anxiety symptoms. I strongly feel that you have read a lot about HIV on the internet and now your mind is playing tricks with you. You have read so much that you constantly monitor your body almost every couple of hours and notice even minute changes that occur on daily basis. I hope you know the power of mind, it can really do a lot to your body.

Your symptoms are your own diagnosis from reading online and they do not mean a thing. If you really had ARS symptoms, you would have been a complete wreck at an ER, with fever so high that would have needed some serious medical attention and not guess work, 101/102 F fever was not ARS fever.

Unless you have cancer and on chemotherapy, you have no reason to suspect delayed sero-conversion.

Suspecting a type 2 virus or undetectable viral load is also irrational because it's exactly what a HIV cyberchondriac does.

You are clearly exhibiting abnormal behavior as testing so much is not normal. Please seek help. The problem seems to be something else, it most likely is OCD, which needs correction from the core by proper re-arrangement of thought process. There is no point in wasting these golden time of your life in fixation of a disease which is not prevailing at the first place. I repeat, please seek help for your irrational fears.

You won't be able to find the viral DNA as there was no RNA infusion to conduct reverse transcriptase process and form cDNA. If it really was the case, p24 antigen would have been already found or you would have tested positive on your antibody. We both know you got yourself 4th Generation HIV tests all the way.

Instead invest your money on therapy.

Thank you for your input. I failed to mention that I did end up in A&E at one point after passing out with low blood pressure and tachycardia during this stage my lymphocytes were also low. The illness that took place was most definitely an acute viral attack. I agree my anxiety is out of control, but that only stems from not knowing what my illness is. Also i find it hard to believe anxiety can create repeat fungal infections? I am addressing my OCD with a therapist, but I remain adament that this is HIV

take it easy dear I am also scared I reach my limit at one point I'm time so please take it easy after my final test am going to start boosting my immune system
