18 days after starting treatment, Terbinafine caused me a severe allergic reaction with a red rash, covering my entire body, head to feet, including palms of hands. Also blisters mainly on my sides and arms. Very itchy all the time and painful in worst areas, hence hard to relax or sleep nights. Feet and hands 'prickle' . 7 days after stopping the medication not much change yet. I have been to referred to hospital and undergone biopsy and blood tests. A very scary reaction to this drug.
Hi, I started this medication 3 weeks ago and I am experiencing the same symptoms as you. Could you tell me how long your side effects lasted and what the hospital done for you? I am a little worried anbout it as you probably know yourself. Thanks
Please stop taking this medicine immediately. My father who was 80 has this reaction last year and ended up in the burns unit for 2 weeks, he then succumbed to pneumonia and then a heart attack. Sadly he died. It was a dreadful situation and we would hate anyone else to suffer like this. Can I ask do you have an auto-immune disorder or heart disease?

My GP Surgery think I may now have an attack of Guttate Psoriasis as a result of a reaction to Terbinafine. I am awaiting referral to see some-one in the dermatology department at our local hospital. I have been told the tingling in my hangs may be due to the general inflamatiion causing restriction in the wrists simulating Carpel Tunnel sensations. My sympathies to the family who lost their Father because of the series of events which followed his taking this medication. Regards

You posted a question to Brendan97063 about having an auto-immune disorder or heart trouble. If it helps answer any questions you may have....in my situation, I had a bad case of flu 14 years ago (I am now 55). I was given amoxycillin and five days into the course developed a rash which continued to grow and bother me over the next year. I was referred to the Dermatoogy Clinic at our local hospital. Eventually I was admitted for a week of tests. They were able to test specifically for amoxycillin and it was not the culprit. The cause of the skin problem was attributed to the flu itself. Since then I have had many instances of rashes - usually very itchy, but this latest outbreak is not very itchy but widespread and horrible in appearance. So to answer your question, the flu did damage my immune system - so I suppose there is a disorder present. Regards
Thank you - If I can save just one person going through what my Father did it will be worthwhile. In the Terbinafine leaflet that came with the tablets it said cautions should be taken with the elderly, auto-immune disorders and heart problems. Apparently it is up to the patient to advice the doctor of these precautions. My father had all of these things and should not have even taken it.
I just got back from the hospital and was diagnosed with urticaria due to terbinafine. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot and it helped some. My condolences to Karen about your father...rest in Peace.
