Amitriptilina y reflujo ácido

Hi.

I was started on amitriptyline a couple of weeks ago now for constant unexplained nausea. Since I have been on them though I have found my acid reflux, which I have had for a while but was well controlled by omeprazole 20mg a day, has now returned with a vengeance! Indigestion pain, burning in the back of my throat, and a weird taste and smell, which is all what I used to get before the omeprazole. The nausea is slightly better.

I can't see in the information that indigestion is a common side effect, has anyone experienced it? Does it get better as you get used to the medication? I'm also extra tired in the mornings, but I expect that!

Any experiences appreciated.

Forgot to mention, I'm on 10mg of amitriptyline a day.

Various Amytryptalene medications can give you a numb effect in your mouth if you have problems swallowing. Either take them with water or a small glass of milk. the taste and sensation will be less. 10mg of this drug should not really cause you problems

Your tummy problems could be caused by your condition and if it persists see your GP. The chemist does have preparations for bad tummies you could try in the short term. If it persists make an appointment

Hi, thanks for your reply. Theres no numb effect in my mouth, and no issues with swallowing. One of the reasons I'm being tried on these is the original medications I was given to try and elliviate some of my symptoms were dissolvable granules which I just could not swallow without throwing up. Tablets I'm fine with!

The stomach problems I am under a specialist for and there are no found reasons for it. It just seems strange when I have been given these medications to try and help my stomach issues they are actually making one aspect of it worse, I wondered if this was in fact due to the meds or just conincidental I have had a flare up when I started taking them. Personally I don't believe in conincidences, so wondering if other people have bad reflux whilst on them.

Thanks again for your reply. :-)

Yes i did. I got reflux and the nausea (mine not explained) never went away. I was only on 10mg too . I seem to be very sensitive to anti depressants, even on low doses.....

I've been 10mg amitriptyline for 2.5 weeks and I've been getting a bit of acid reflux (I don't normally get any) so I'm assuming it must be a side effect. Weirdly enough I've also been getting nausea since starting it, which I'm assuming may also be a possible side effect of it too.

Hola Vickya,
