Anal abscess after hemorrhoidectomy

I had a hemorrhoidectomy almost three weeks ago. The pain has subsided a lot but I still have lots of swelling which I'm hoping will go down soon. Today I have noticed just up from the area that was excised there is a hard red lump which is about the size of a 5p. It appears to have a small head on it but I had no luck when trying to squeeze it. Its quite flat at the moment but it feels like a hard lump beneath the surface. It is not painful at the moment. I am becoming concerned that it is an anal abscess and may indicate an infection?? Has anyone experienced something similar or experienced an anal abscess and could share their symptoms? thanks in advance
