Ankle Pain 3 Months After Sprain

Hello, around 3 months ago I stepped off an elevated surface and my ankle rolled outward causing me to sprain it.  It was not a major sprain but there was a lot of pain for around an hour after.

Admittedly, I made the major mistake of completely overlooking it immediately after, I continued to run on it and played sports.  I barely iced and did not treat it.

The following days the pain depreciated to the point where I thought I was recovering fine.  However, weeks later (and up until present day), I've noticed that certain range of motion and movement, specifically swimming, causes sharp discomfort in the ankle where I sprained it.  It is rare, and I am able to do things such as play hockey with nothing, but it's very specific movements that trigger it.

Should I see a doctor for this?

Thanks.

Yes do see a doctor to get it checked out.

Cheers Richard

Definately.  I sprained my ankle in Oct 15, then again in Jan 16.  X Ray showed no break and even in April the doctor told me it could take time months to fully heal.  By July  I went to see a specialist who sent me for physio. Still not better by October so I went back and they did an MRI scan.  It showed I had a fractured cartilaage of the talus dome.  Only 2.5 mm which was nothing really.  I did non weight bearing, physio therapy and high dosage glucosomine.  This surgeon wanted to open me up and operate.  I looked for alternative and found myself an ankle specialist.  Thats all he deals in.  He diagnosed immedately 2 problems.  The 2.5 mm fraacture was minimal.  My foot had altered shape and now I am going in for an operation next Tueday to have a pin inserted arthroscopocally and the bone drilled to encourage new cartillage growth in the talus.  SEE AN ANKLE SPECIALIST ONLY!  Mine could have been healed with the correct shoe inserts nearly 2 years ago now its costing me 4000 euros. Good luck!
