What are people's experience of low dose anti psychotics for severe anxiety? (without psychosis) I would presume atypicals are best as they usually have less EPS etc, I also don't want my depression to get worse.
Benzodiazapines can cause lots of problems but then again antipsychotics do come with lists of potential side effects.

I was gives a small dose of quetiapine 25mg by my psych to take the edge off as he put it.
He told me they were not addictive and only take them when I need them he did not rell me they were antipsychotic drugs.
When I got home I looked it up and it said it was to deal with bipolar and schizophrenia I dont have either.
I have taken the quetiapine once and it made me very sleepy and very restless so I wont be taking them again.
I have to be on anti D's because of my depression but I dont want to take drugs that are doing me no good.
Everyone has a different reaction to medication

I think doctors feel so bad they cant help they are trying what ever is out there in hopes something works. Benzos where used for seizures when they started. Someone thiught hey if it works for a seizure and quiets down the nerves and muscles lets take it for severe anxiety and it worked. So out of desprecact and no new research of use and many pharmas not backing new meds to be made.l.they are trying what exists on the market. Maybe they will find one that works, you never know. So that why i think you were given an anti physchotic..because its trial and error.
Like Lil said everyone reacts differently. I have been prescribed them all for sleep. They don't agree with me at all I sleep Ok for about 16 hours, cant get out of bed and then I'm a zombie for the rest if the day so personally I don't touch them but could be fantastic for your anxiety. That is what I am worried about. Did you have any anxiety at all an did they help? I really don't want to become an unmotivated zombie - many people seem to mention the bit about feelinng like a zombie - did they blunt your feelings?

I take valium for anxiety. I was so out of it I couldn't function or think about anything so only did 2 nights - Friday and Saturday. No good when you have to work x

Was this on all of them? What about olanzapine at 2.5mg or low dose quetiapine?

You also said it made you very restless - that sounds awful - did it last a long time? Also was it the extended release or ordinary tablets.

I take 200mg sertraline daily I took quetiapine once as I was having a really anxious day and it was just horrid feeling the sertraline never makes me feel like that.
But it is different for everyone

Can you describe how it made you feel? It obciously did not take away your anxiety either. How long did the feeling last?

I did take it at night it made me feel nauseas I slept for about 12 hours but when I say slept it was as if I was awake but paralysed and I thrashed about the bed all 12 hours.
The next norning I had a really bad head and it lasted all day
But as I keep saying it may not work for me but it might work for you

Quetapine, amitriptaline, mitrazapine, my doctor stopped after trying those as whatever receptors in the brain they bind to or however they say it does something odd with me. Lots of people take them and function fine. I took 1/4 of a 15mg tablet of mirtrazapine had the usual zombie effect for me and my doc told me has a patient on 150mg a day and they are great! Goes to show we are all wired differently
