can anyone relate to having these both together
Yes ann i have severe anxiety and have had severe diverticulitis and surgery too. You are not alone in this. Please feel free to ask any questions or seek reassurance from me. Its hard going, but its manageable.
I had anxiety before the diverticular diagnosis but seems worse now. What medications hel you?
I use an antidepressant and at the moment, diazepam under a doctor and psychologists care. I have had a bowel resection and temporary Iliostomy so it's been an extremely stressful time. It's awful to be anxious and depressed. I can truly sympathise .
Hi Ann,
I have severe anxiety/panic attacks both before diagnosis and after. My anxiety is decreasing overall due to therapy but I do find every time I get a twinge I can get very depressed. That is new to me. I have just started a possible flare up ( hoping the liquid 48 hours will stop it) has made me just want to crawl into bed and not come out, not from the illness but from the depression. I hope you feel better soon.

Yes Ann , I to developed bad anxiety and panic attacks when I was diagnosed with Diverticulitis in February. It’s been a very tough 5 months but am getting better. I’m on Xanax, all the other antidepressant they had me on my body rejected, so it’s trial and error to find best one that fits you. I reached out to my community Mental Health, and learning meditation, mindfulness, yoga and breathing has really helped. Specially when I had to be on antibiotics, they add to it. I’m also trying CBD oils to see if that helps. It takes time and patience and the diet is very important also. But you will get better, just remember this is not a forever thing it will pass. Determination, it’s all about mind/gut. Prayers to you , and this is a good forum to reach out to for support, suggestions and advice. 🙏🤗🌺🌸
Yes me I got all three and acid reflux horrid all of it
Yes I relate. This is my first attack. It was awful.... I am so afraid of it coming back.
I am also having anxiety that comes and go. I was very unlucky to have 3 flairs in 2 months and the surgeon recommended surgery for me. I am getting ready for the surgery now. After each flair up I was on a liquid die at for 2-3 weeks and it will go away and come back again.
Violetta I've had the surgery and I'm looking forward to no more diverticulitis. I had no choice. I had to have it. My bowel has given me problems for years, so at 62 I'm looking towards a future of a healthy digestive system.
Thank you for sharing. Quality of life is important. I wish one day to be able to eat food and not worry........
Amen!
I agree, I’ve only had 1 attack, but also developed anxiety and panic and an abscess, was in hospital 5days , so on antibiotics for 1month , I hear the antibiotics alone can cause anxiety. My anxiety was so bad I’d get major panic attacks. Finally got help. But now I have SIBO and back on antibiotics, ugh so I’m sick again. And new diet. I’ve lost 40 lbs in 5 months. The antibiotics really screw up your gut flora and cause more havoc. Takes long time to get over . I know if I have another flare , I am doing the surgery. I’ve changed diet, and lifestyle working on quitting smoking now. This is aweful disease and my heart goes out to all who have to live with this. 🤗🙏
I'm sure we will. My surgeon, one of the top in his field, has assured me that after my next surgery when everything settles, I can look forward to a life without diverticulitis. Feel free to ask any questions about surgery too.
My daily quality of life has so changed. Once outgoing and constantly active I now fear going out socially. I am afraid to eat. I was diagnosed in May and had 2 attacks. Hospitalization. Found a great GI doctor who gave me my life back but still have bouts of diarrhea and queezy stomach. Acid reflux. Trying to live Day by day. Feel better if I stay active and moving.
My upper arms also ache a lot of the time.
I have diverticulosis, but am currently worrying about my stools. I don't seem to have what I would consider normal. They are either very small flat stringy peices or very loose with virtually no shape. Can anyone relate to this? It's driving me insane worrying something else may be going on. Had a colonoscopy last September which was clear apart from the diverticulum apparently. Can this cause stool irregularities?
Your reply is very uplifting. I live in hope of mine getting back to normal. Meantime thr anxiety is high and im not sleeping. Trying all the usual, things like sleep, apps and dr gave me diazepam but i find its not doing much at 5mg. Not sure what to do buy needa nights sleep
I am on diazepam, i thinkmit is like xanax but less potent? I would like tomtry cbdoil but i am on warfarin and i think its contraindicated. Does it help? I am not sleeping due to anxiety so need some advice there too
I have anxiety and DD. My life is a rollercoaster. Finally found a dr to give me an anti anxiety medication and hoping this will help. I am sure that the anxiety I experience fearing another DD attack and worryingly about my stools etc triggers my gastro problems.
My sleep is so irradic. My mind constantly rehashes my gut issues which makes it worse. I'm starting citilopram. I pray it works. Xanax is too potent and too many side effects for me.
