Has anyone had anxiety counselling. And what happens do they know your medical history and what happens on first appointment
Hi. You only tell them what you are comfortable them knowing, the first session is mainly a getting to know you session, about You, family dynamics, your problems. Work etc... things that can impact your mental health. Then every week you work on it. My counsellor describes it as an onion and every week layers come away,
Hi Lisa I’ve done CBT twice and it really works. Like Kerry said you just tell them what your comfortable with. And each week gets easier xx
Hi Lisa I agree with the others. Tell them what you are comfortable with. They are not allowed to identify third parties. Is it NHS or private?
JUst think carefully before answering any questions as some people think they have a right to know all your details. This in itself can cause anxiety.
Thanks just how do they know it’s really health anxiety I’ve got and just not something wrong with me
Hello! I have had private counselling for anxiety and they only share info if they think you are at risk IE feeling suicidle. It is all kept confidential. If and when you do longer use the services they will destroy your records. I think with non private counselling they do keep your records for future reference if you were to return. It helped me a great deal but don't be afraid of swapping and changing phsycologists because it will only work if they are suited to you and you feel they are the right person for you to advise. Good luck xx
Counselors speak with people about anxiety on a daily basis so they are really good at identifying anxiety .
Your best bet would to be to speak with the counselor and also have a general check up at your doctors office. That way you will be checked out physically as well as be able to speak with the counselor who can assess whether or not you have anxiety.
keep in mind that anxiety can exhibit symptoms that mimic health conditions so it’s good to have a thorough check up.
I’ve had bloods done few months ago all came back normal docs don’t wanna do me anymore tests but u know when u feel like something is wrong but that could be just anxiety I don’t know
Thanks for the info and I’m nhs
Can they be the ones that suggest medication or is that done by a doctor
Sorry I do not know. However in my opinion it should be a DR but having said that some nurses are also nurse prescribers.
Drugs are usually 'suggested' first as cheaper than counselling etc. My daughter is a psychiatric nurse and they have cut bck on the number of trained psych nurses and rely on assistants.
Yes Lisa I know how that feels. I started doing that in my 20s and I’m now in my 50s. I thought for sure I had some horrible condition back then, but like you, my test came out normal. I finally realized all of my symptoms were due to anxiety and stress. If you are prone to anxiety, and have been checked by your doctor, then most likely your symptoms are due to anxiety and stress.
One thing I learned is that the more anxious I became, the more symptoms I would have. That’s because when you’re anxious, your brain sends out adrenaline which can cause symptoms that are harmless but scary.
The main thing to do is relax your mind as much as possible learn proper breathing technique with anxiety, do things that relax you and that make you feel happy, don’t take life too seriously., Get some exercise and eat healthy. These are things I wish I had learned a long time ago when my anxiety first begin.
Worrying does no good and can actually produce more symptoms because you were telling your brain that something is wrong. I finally am in control of my anxiety because I made the decision that I am the one in control not fear and anxiety.
I listen to audio meditations daily on YouTube for anxiety which completely relax my mind, body and symptoms. There’s also a great short meditation for proper breathing with anxiety found on YouTube. “Mindfulness guided breathing meditation 10 minutes”.
I got more active and social and since I know my symptoms are due to anxiety, if I ever get one I ignore it and it goes away. You have to take the attitude of “I’m OK. This will go away. “

Yes. I go to CBT. The first visit they ask you questions about your anxiety and medical history. Usually the second visit they start treatment.
They know what they are doing and how the brain works. I suffer with health anxiety, have done for over 10 years and I’m still here xx
Have you talked this over with your minister?
Not for anxiety.
For depression.
I think both are related.
Sorry I don't follow.
