Anxiety is high! Starting Vistaril

I saw my doctor today and he has prescribed vistaril of 100mg for my anxiety. I am anxious thinking about taking this medication. My goal was to reduce my meds but it seems they just keep increasing. I need to get rid of this anxiety. I know what is causing it but only time will heal so I will not be so anxious. In the mean time, I have no choice but to give this medication a try. I just can't bring myself to take it! Anyone else experience this?

Deciding whether to take medicine or not is a tough decision, and you may believe that medications are for "weak" people, and they don't want to be "dependent". But it's important to talk to your therapist and your doctor to educate yourself about the treatment options available to make the best decision. The best way to fight anxiety is to commit to a comprehensive treatment which may include a combination of medication, therapy, exercise and healthy lifestyle. Therapy might be a better option for you if you are not a fan of the idea of medication. In therapy they will try to get down to the REASON you are prone to the anxiety and try to give you tools to help manage it. You may not require taking the medication for an extended period of time but that will depend on what your doctor recommends.

Hi I understand how hard it is to start taking medication, I have been on it so long and a little while ago I told my doctor I feel very embaressed taking the meds and having to rely on them he said he didnt understand the problem as I would not feel the same way if I broke my arm and it had to be in plaster, just the same thing.

My goals also are to eventually reduce the meds and stop taking all together at the moment is feels like a dream but I am determined to get there.

Try and keep your chin up x

Thank you All!

I am going to begin taking it tonight. Will keep you posted on how it goes. Wish me luck on side effects. Of course I will be anxious about it until I take it. It sounds silly anxious about anxiety medication. Thanks for listening!
