Just need some reassurance. I been on sertraline now for 11 months. It took a good 3 months to work but then I was back to normal. I’m still on the same medication but this last 2 weeks I seem to have relapsed; not as severe as before but getting the following symptoms especially in the morning:
Knot upper middle tummy
Discomfort in tummy and loose bowels
Dry mouth
Tightening muscles
Restlessness
Heavy feeling in back of throat
Tingling lips
General tension and dread
Weakness
Shaky feeling inside
Slightly nauseous
This does wear off during the day but comes and goes. I had a stressful time losing a job a month ago but I’m over that now.
Can medication stop working. I’m worried it’s sonething else even though I’ve felt these symptoms before.
I just don’t understand why it’s come back and am worried it won’t go away again
Please help
Hi Karen,
Yes, it is possible that a drug that has been working fine for a while gradually loses its efficacy. This may be caused by a change in your personal circumstances, or be related to biochemical processes which are yet not well understood. How much sertraline do you currently take? Although the maximum daily dose is 200 mg, many patients take less than that. Increasing the dose would be the first thing to try. Another option would be to switch to another antidepressant with a similar mechanism of action. This is something you could talk about with your GP / pdoc.
Yes you May need a change of dose. Go to see your Dr and good luck x
Hi Karen, Yea, it sounds like your anxiety is back. It can come back for no reason at all, at any time. I would suggest you go see your doctor. He may need to increase your medication dosage or give you a secondary med. (((HUGS)))
