What can i do for anxiety feeling scared meclizine makes me worse balance horrible meanears is making me feel like I will never get better again
Have you seen an ear/nose/throat ENT doctor? Why do you think you have Meniere's Disease? Please bring us up to date on what the doctors have told you and what other meds you are on....and what diet restrictions you are practicing.
Dear jones98459,
Anxiety can often be a big problem with Meniere's. But it's difficult to offer advice, knowing so little about your situation. Can you tell us more about yourself and your situation? Have you seen an ENT? Have you been formally diagnosed with Meniere's Disease? What medications are you on? Any other treatments?
It's horrible being so sick...when your balance is off and you don't know what's going to happen next. I'm so sorry to hear that you're feeling so awful.
Sincerely,
J-
I have been to ENT I do have meaniers. I have had for 30 years now. This has been the worse time with it. Balance if horrible. I think I have convinced myself I am spinning all the time with anxiety. Taking Meclizine it helps some but makes me so anxious. I do have a very small brain tumor which they found when they did MRI for my balance problems it is 8.5mm very small and too small according to three nureo docs to be causing problems. I was suppose to start vestebular therapy but had a small vertigo attack so I cancelled. I really feel hopeless like I will never get better. I am trying so hard to be normal it is not working.
Dear jones98459,
I'm so sorry that you're suffering, so. I know what it feels like to be in the thick of it, and it's horrible.
The good news is that vestibular therapy really does work to help your balance and make your nervous system more resilient to dizziness and nausea. I'm sorry that an attack prevented you from keeping your appointment, because there's a good chance that feeling more confident about your balance will help to reduce your anxiety. But in the meantime, has your ENT or GP prescribed anything for the anxiety? I find that 0.5mg Clonazepam does the trick for me, when I've needed it. It just takes the edge off of it, and enables me not to get caught in the cycle. There are also some relaxing herbal teas out there that help me when I'm feeling low-level anxiety...The ones containing chamomile and lemongrass seem to be the most calming.
Sounds like you need something to interrupt that cycle of anxiety where the anxiety makes your symptoms worse, which makes your anxiety worse, and round and round you go!
You mentioned that you had a mild vertigo attack. Do you feel that your vertigo is under control, for the most part? Is the loss of balance your most troubling issue?
I hope it helps to know that most of us have felt exactly what you're feeling now. And there really is hope. I benefitted enormously from vestibular rehab for my balance issues. But it was the steroid injections that finally eliminated the vertigo, which was so debilitating to me, and the root source of my misery. Still, I always carry my rescue meds with me just in case I have the odd dizzy/woozy episode: Meclazine 25mg, Clonazepam 0.5 mg and Glycopyrrolate 1mg. I also must maintain a low sodium diet and take a diuretic every day in order to keep my symptoms at bay.
I hope you'll give your ENT a call and see if there are medications that might help you get through this rough patch. And perhaps this is time to re-evaluate your entire treatment plan. Meniere's isn't something that will likely get better on its own, so it's not any failure on your part that you're not feeling "normal"!! It tends to progress over time, and often requires changes and adjustments in medications and/or treatments. This is a chronic condition, and it's not your fault that your feeling so horribly.
I hope you'll keep us up to date with how you're feeling.
Sending you my best wishes....

Thank you for all the information. I did get the diurect today sent my hubby to get it at pharamacy and will start taking it today. They gave me valium and it does help some. I have balance and hearing test in August. I really have had very little vertigo attacks for years. Just starting having them for around six months now. But they do not last just the balance problems never go away. I am trying to figure out if I am just having vertigo or anxiety I know when I look down or turn my head side to side I get extremely dizzy. I am so confused lol But thank you again for everything I will get the therapy going just have to force myself. And believe this too shall pass or at least be managable.
From your last post it seems you may have developed BPPV - benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. About 30% of Meniere's sufferer's also get this, me included. There is an exercise you can do yourself called the Epley manoeuvre which works for me and has a claimed success rate of 80%.
Have a look at this pdf - www.ncuh.nhs.uk/our-services/epley-manoeuvre-quick-guide.pdf
There are also very good video's on Youtube
Do not worry about trying this as my doctor said even if you get it wrong you will do no harm.
Although BPPV is a condition of the Inner ear it is not related to Meniere's, its just a problem that affects an increasing number of us as we get older.
Best wishes.
