Anxious Teenager

15 year old taking 40 mgs of Prozac since Feb.. improved but not back in school and finds some situations very hard.In therapy also.

We don't know what to do..

Anyone any advice

hello im sorry you going thru this in this age , you saying you are doing okay but you can't socialise ?

My 20 year old son took these some years ago and though very hard at the beginning they helped him recover from anxiety and depression.  It took him 9 months mind, and those first few months were the hardest.  He's now back to his normal happy self and full of life.

He had social anxiety and found some situations difficult too, but now he's better he's much better at this, has a girlfriend, goes to concerts and travels abroad on holiday.  He still finds some situations uncomfortable, but thats just his nature and its nothing compared to how he used to be.

During his recovery I got my son interested in music.  He started drum and guitar classes and I accompanied him for a while, and as he recovered more on the meds so his confidence grew and he decided to go to the classes alone.  3 years on, he was invited to join the drum troupe and has performed publicly and with guitar too.  Sometimes having an interest, learning a new skill really helps and builds confidence and their focus is on something else rather than themselves, even if its only for the duration of the class.

Its very hard being patient with these meds, but they're really slow working and you can't hurry them.

Thanks very much for your reply.

My daughter is in very good form but afraid of experiencing panic in school when in the classroom with .Also anything in groups.I have just arranged for her to go out with a personal trainer friend of mine to run so hopefully she will like it.She is also doing emdr.I suppose we her parents just have to be patient.

She can be with her friends and is happy. She is afraid of panic feelings when in school classroom.
