Im 39.
I used to smoke lots of marijuana. (due to depression )
Over 3 years ago now, after smoking some tobacco that I got from holland and barratt (some sort of nicotine free mix that was advertised as honey scented and natural but is in fact terrible) I felt like I had inhaled something bad and I got ill.
My illness / infection hit my chest.
I didnt think too much of it at the time as i was in reasonable heath.
After the illness, I noticed when I breathed out there was a tiny wheeze..
I gave up smoking totally and havnt smoked for over 3 years.
Unfortunately it has got worse and worse..
I now think its total rubbish that if you stop smoking it will not get worse..
I had never heard of COPD before that.
I have been active but the resistance / wheeze when I exhale has got worse and worse over the 3 years and I get out of breath very quickly.
I havnt had much luck at the doctors. I had tests and x rays but they havnt diagnosed me as such..
Recently its got worse again.. A constant feeling of something in my lungs and altho caughing seem the right thing to do, it doesnt help. it just seems the discomfort is unable to be relieved.
Does anyone know what I mea by this discomfort?
Are there any things people do to help it?
Hi Larry,
I never smoked but was born with diseased lungs and do understand the sensation you describe. If you have not been seen by a pulmonologist yet for lung studies, doing so needs to be your next step.
Prescription Tesalon Pearls will help keep cough away and also thin down the mucus so you can cough it up easily. And there are many other great medications. You need to know for sure what is wrong.
Best wishes,
Dawn
If you are in the UK your GP/respiratory nurse should be able to do spirometer to see if your smoking has caused COPD. Have you been tried on any inhaler for example salbutamol? If you are feeling wheezy it could be worth a try.
Hi Larey,
you could always try some alternative medicine ...to ease breathing go onto Yutube to see how to make your own salt pipe for next to nothing. This eases breathing. Do get diagnosed as perhaps you do not have COPD but something related...waiting to find out will not help get the treatment you should be having....
PS: I should add for you and other readers on here, that I recently developed very severe calf & foot cramps and then discovered this is a side effect of the Symbicort. I've reduced my use to 1 puff twice a day from 2 and the cramps are so far receding.
