Anyone have major neck stiffness/soreness along with FS?

Am currently dealing with two frozen shoulders.  First one began about a year ago.  With the start of the 2nd FS a couple months ago, I have been waking up with a very stiff and sore neck which feels only somewhat better as the day goes on.  Anyone else experience this, and any advice on what to do?  Should I go to a chiropractor or massage therapist?

a doctor can refer you to an orthopedic dr.-

when i went to my ortho, he gave me a shot in my shoulder and currently doing phyiscal therapy-

I takes time, dilegence and patience

good luck- sue

Thanks Sue, I was referred to an ortho a while back.  All he said was not much is known about the condition and to do PT.  I did a lot of PT and it didn't help.  I think I'll return to my GP and try to get authorization for a chiro visit.

I'd recommend massage therapy and accupuncture in the trigger points. Both helped me a lot.

Good luck with it

just a note- i tried pt too early and wasnt able to do it- but the second time is working

Sorry to hear that you are dealing with this in both shoulders! UGH! My second shoulder started acting up and went promptly to the orthopedist to get an ultrasound guided cortisone shot. This seems to have stopped the progression in my second shoulder, at least for now.

Yes, I have lots of neck pain, which I think is mostly related to how much my muscles are compensating for my stuck and frozen shoulder. I have been wondering about massage as well and would be interested in feedback from others related to whether it was helpful. I do use a heating pad on my neck/shoulder and this does bring some relief.

I'd gon and see your doctor it sounds like PMR, if you have stiff and sore hips too definitely worth a look into. I have arthritis in my neck I've had one shoukder operated on and the other started about 4months ago x oh the joys of it all x

What is PMR?? Asking because my hip and knee are also stiff /sore

First off, just in case...anyone who is using Truvia sweetener be aware it causes muscle spasms especially in the neck.  Yes I had a huge neck problem.  I believe our shoulder blade/scapula mechanism doesn't work properly and like our shoulders throws down scar tissue. This impinges the nerve in our spine. My physiatrist taped me in the correct position and then sent me to rehab. Very painful. You can use a theracane and try to release trigger points yourself. If they go on too long, it's hard to stop them due to muscle memory.

Have not heard that about Truvia, but I do not use artificial sweeteners at all as they are all considered inflammatory.

Yes that is correct. But Truvia is marketed as STEVIA and also says natural but when you look into it, it is erythritol 99% and only 1% STEVIA. How they get away with this is due to how the FDA operates. Erythritol is a man made sugar made in industrial vats. Sickening.

In relation to your question if massage helps- the answer is yes.  I'm currently going to physical therapy 2 x a week and sports massage once a week.  My sports therapist can work on the areas that my physical therapist recommends.

Along with doing home exercises- it's getting better- just takes patience..

Yes, Jill. Absolutely. I am 19 months along & still take extra time with hot water on my neck & upper back in the shower. I also still do one of the first exercises that physio gave me - tuck my chin in & down, followed by stretching it up & back. If I have extra heavy days on the computer, repeating this stretch is even more important for me to do. Hope that helps, Liane

Yes my neck is stiff, but I had arthritis in my neck befor shoulders my GP thinks it's what's caused my shoulder I found a video on you tube which explains it. I've had surgery on my left shoulder I sleep with a hot water bottle every night

Hi Jill,

Yes. I have a similar neck issue. The MRI confirmed my issue as having no curve in the neck. (Think it's called Military Neck or hypolordosis of the cervical spine.)  I have seen an Orthopedic doctor and a Pain Management specialist to review the MRI and both have confirmed the issue is caused by the Frozen Shoulder.

At least in my case, I have been in so much pain that my posture has changed and is causing the neck issue. Both specialists have told me the neck issue will resolve when this blasted Frozen Shoulder goes away. Been 15 months now.

I bought a speical pillow for my neck, it only gave me headaches. Like we need more issues, right?  I found that gentle stretching everyday and little neck rolls have helped me a little. That and a muscle relaxer a few times a week.

I am not sure about you, but I haven't been brave enought to try a massage therapist or letting anyone go near this shoulder, but some on this fourm swear by massage. All I know is that it's supposed to improve with the shoulder....15 months in, I hope it's soon!

Good luck to you.. Let me know if you find anything helpful.

PS. Physical Therapy did not help me at all either. I do excercises and stretching at home.. very very carefully.  My Mom bought me a massaging heating pad off of a home shopping channel. LOVELY! I think I put up a post in this forum about it. That heat pad is my best friend!

Hang in there!

You could also look into portable tens units. That saved me!
