Anyone taken naproxen anti inflammatory for pain?

Hi ladies, just wondered if anyone had taken any anti inflammatorys for there pain. I have been prescribed naproxen for my Achilles tendonitis and finger pain but as with most prescription meds am worried about side effects so like to ask on here first for your experiences.

Hi Sarah - Can I ask you when you developed Achilles Tendonitis? Do you have the bumps on the back of your heels? I developed mine four years ago out of the blue...no one in my family has it & I am still wondering the cause of it.  I was on a bad blood pressure RX @ the time that is known to affect tendons, but then I guess menopause does too.  I try to take fish oil & magnesium religiously & when I do get a flair up of pain use magnesium spray or icy/hot.  I try to stay away from anything that might affect my already delicate stomach & digestive system.  Hope you get some relief - supportive shoes really have helped me - I like Vionics, they have helped with heel pain

How old are you? Side effects occur when you're over 70, more so than when you're young. If you're over 70, or close then I wouldn't take it. I take Aleve, and I'm getting close to 60. I'm not sure I'll continue taking them after 65.

I'm not sure if naproxen is an nsaid like advil or aspirin, but if so, make sure to always protect your stomach before taking. One time I took advil without food and I think it was the start of gastritis for me.

Yes, it's an nsaid, naproxen and should be taken with food to reduce the risk of stomach issues.

Hi,I took naproxen for ovarian cyst pain last year. Nothing else worked. It got rid of the pain and I didn't have any side effects. I took it with codiene and paracetamol. I took it for about 8weeks at the highest dose. The Dr said it was ok to take it for that long. I'm 49.

Hi Sarah

I've taken naproxen with no issues, and generally I'm sensitive to meds. Just a bigger ibuprofen really xx

Hi Sarah i am currently on Naproxen and have been for a few months, i have sciatica. I have not had any side effects but, all big phama  drugs have a potential side effect. It helps me greatly, i did not take if Friday as i am on other  drugs too and wondered if i needed it OMG the pain was horrendous Saturday morning  x

I, too had suffered from sciatica for years. I started doing exercises I found on yt that have helped a lot. But the best therapy I had was acupuncture and natural herbal pills given to me by my acupuncturist that completely loosen the muscles in the back, thereby reducing any swelling caused the sciatic nerve. I no longer suffer at all from sciatic pain, unless I do exercises that cause the nerves to become inflamed, which happens usually when I don't warm up before exercising.

Thanks for your replies. Sochima I'm 50 so I guess it's ok then. I need to make sure I take it with or after food then to avoid stomach issues. That's good to know sassy as I usually take Ibuprofen frequently.

I took Naproxen for a while for joint pain, but to be quite honest, I didn't find it any more effective or any better than Ibuprofen.  i really didn't find any difference so went back to Ibuprofen.  I didn't have any side effects with either Naproxen or Ibuprofen, but have always taken Omeprazole (10mg) with them to protect against stomach problems.  Now, if Ibuprofen isn't strong enough, I take Co-codamol, 2 x 500/30mg tablets, which do the job beautifully.

hi  sochima what herbal pills do you take my back muscles are so tight  ?

They're called spzm by health concerns.

Well as I expected they blocked the name. I can send you the name if you send me a pm.

Hi louisescotland

I agree, 2 Co codamol are great for any kinda pain I get smile

Hi, what is Omeprazole? Yes I always take Ibuprofen for headaches but it doesn't do a thing for my tendonitis, lower back pain and finger pain so wondered if the Naproxen was stronger but for you it wasn't. Is co codamol prescription only?

Hi Sarah, no you can buy it. Omeprazole is an an acid. You usually take them to protect the lining of your stomach

Thanks sassy. Yes my local boots sell nurofen plus and sulpadein plus which contains codein but can't seem to find co codamol anywhere. they all say only take for 3 days though as addictive so for tendonitis it won't help long term then. I'm thinking of seven seas fish oil capsules now as read can help with tendonitis and joint pain

I'm pretty sure you can get them at lloyd's pharmacy Sarah. I've tried the ibuprofen and codeine from boots and they are good, but as you say it's only for 3 days. Otherwise, best to pop to your gp and see if they can find you something to ease it. I know it's so painful xx

Hi Sarah - my other comment to you got deleted...not sure why? Any hoot, curious when you developed your Achilles tendinitis?  I got mine out of the blue right out of hitting menopause - no one else in my family has it & I didn’t have a sport injury.  Do you have the hideous bumps in your heels? Hmmm, I wonder if another symptom of menopause -
