I was initially prescribed 30mg Mirtazapine about 7 weeks ago, was fine for a while, then I had a major family upset which triggered my anxiety, so GP up'd dose to 45mg, this was too much for me and my anxiety worse.
My mental health nurse specialist, got me tapering off 30mg to 15mg Mirtazapine ( 30mg for 3 days then 15mg for 4 days introducing 10mg Escitilopram when down to 15mgs )
I stopped the Mirtazapine 2 days ago and feel horrendous, major panic attacks, shaking, hyperventilating, nausea etc.,
Can anyone give me any advice please, I haven't slept for more than 3-4 hours in 36 hours!!!
Hi Karen . Haven't tapered off this drug but years ago tapered off different one. Had all symptoms your having thought I would go mad. Tapering is a good idea though even though it seems bad now, after about day 10 I started feeling sane again, started getting about 5/6 hrs sleep instead of 2, the shaking , sweating , manic thoughts etc calmed down. Visit doc if you don't feel better soon , should feel better soon , probably still feel weak and strange for a while but takes a while to get out of system and back to normal, then I would really push your doctor to get to the route of anxietyβ€οΈ
Hi Karen , Im sorry to hear that you going thru this. I was in similar situation 16 days ago where my doctor stopped mirtazapine 15mg cold turkey after 3 months of taking it and put me on fluoxetine (ssri as escitilopram) what you are expieriencing are both withdrawl from mirtazapine and side effects of new antidepressant . I was there . Hell im still here but its gonna get better. Just hang on there. Antisickness tablets help. Your mirtazapine was stopped to quickly in effect you are getting your anxiety worse. Sending huuugs ππ
Thank you Edwina,
I'm considering taking 15mg Mirtazapine tonight and halving my Escitalopram in the morning?
I can't cope like this anymore π’
Thank you aga02916
I'm considering taking 15mg Mirtazapine tonight and maybe halving the Escitilopram in the morning.
I can't go through another night like the last two, I'm at my wits end even ended up at A&E last night as having major panic attacks all day and night!
Hi , hang in there you can cope, if I and many others can you can. I've done cold turkey and tapered, it will get better, you'll look back soon and be glad you pushed through this. Really feel for you and aga who's in similar situation, as I totally know how you're feeling right now. Take it a day at a time even an hour at a time , keep talking, keep busy take comfort in the fact people are here for you . I know you feel rotten now but think tomorrow you may feel a little better and next day even better still. Get more reasurance from your doc that meds will work as it is making your anxiety worse, hang in thereβ€οΈ
Thank you again Edwina.
I'm concerned I might be intolerant to SSRIS as I had a bad reaction to Sertraline a few years ago too.
I just feel so awful with the continuous panic attacks and nausea etc., and I'm so worn out π’
Awww Karen that sounds horrible. How are you now ? Did you have this kind of bad panic attacks before starting escitilopram ? Or is it something new? I only had one major panic attack in my life , at work , they had to ring an ambulance as I was going on and on and on , couldnt breath , pin and needless in legs and hands, tight chest, heart palpitations and passing out. It was horrible and to have it day and night bless you πππhope you were given something to calm you down and have something in case or to prevent panic attacks? If you dont you should go to doctors and demand something. Nobody should suffer like this πsending hugs xxxxxx im here for you π
Thank you aga02916
I haven't had any panic attacks like this for over 25 years.
Yes, the full hyperventilating, pins and needles, racing heart shaking! So frightening! They gave me a stronger Diazepam and gave me 4 more to bring home.
Too scared to go to bed as I know I won't sleep and will start the whole cycle and it feels worse at night.
Am going to ring my GP on Monday if no better π’
I think you should or if you cant wait until monday , go to walk in centre and they have to take you. Bless you. Take one diazepam and try to get some sleep, try to switch off , try to think of something you enjoy , put negative thoughts on the side, I know its easier said than done but thinking about getting panic attack will get you in a state again . Its a vicious cirkle . You will get thru this , im here for you ππ
Thank you aga.
Yes, if tonight's as bad I'm going to ring the local NHS Access centre.
Here for you too π
Are you switching to 2 new medications?
I hope you dont need to and you will have settled night but its good to have some way out.βΊim only switching to fluoxetine 20mg, been 7 days on 10mg and now 8 days on 20mg. Sending hugs xxxxxx let me know how you feel xxx
Great you and Karen are supporting each other, it's lovely to see, feeling so crappy yet reasuring and helping each other, hope very shortly you can both congratulate each other on making progress, β€οΈ
Karen, take a diazapam before bed. You should sleep , doc gave you them for a reason. You won't get addicted if he only gave you four. They will help. It's just long term use isn't advised. They are often prescribed when coming off meds to calm or help sleepβ€οΈ
Hi Edwina , we are here to support all of us πππ we will get thru this together , with ups and downs , but we will be able to share it and support each other π
Hiya Karen how are you feeling today ? Thinking of you xxxx
Hi aga,
Well got a few hours of sleep on and off, didn't go to bed stayed on the sofa!
Still feeling nauseous and trembling very shaky and panicky.
Did manage to force some toast down about 2am and again this morning.
Just praying for an end to it all !
How are you feeling today?
π
Aww bless you , sending hugs xxx feeling sick woke me up at 6am , had awful night , felt like I was on a boat. Had a nap on sofa from 8 till 11, about to have some soup. Hopefully this is going to help. Feeling anxious today and just weak and dizzy. And this horrible nasuea. But its better than few days ago so there is hope. Have you been to doctors ? Xxx
Oh no π€¦ββοΈ it's awful isn't it?!
No haven't been yet, going to ring first thing in the morning unless I need to go to access centre before!
Was meant to be having a mammogram tomorrow morning at 9.25am think I'm going to have to rearrange that now too. That always adds to my anxiety anyway as I was diagnosed with breast cancer 13 years ago, even though I'm now on the normal 3 yearly screening everyone in the UK is when they are over 50, still causes me more anxiety, it's a shame as I just wanted to get it done, but there is no way I can face that at the moment.
Glad you got a few more hours sleep and hope you can manage to eat something sending hugs π€
Hi Karen , soo sorry you been thru this as well, I bet scan brings all the memories and thats makes you feel even more anxious. Im so glad you okay with it now. If you dont feel up to just change appointment , nothing is gonna happen and you dont need more anxiety on top of everything. I hope your GP is supportive and its gonna get sorted. You gotta let me know how it went π I managed whole bowl of chicken soup and bite of cooked chicken. My tummy settled a little bit but I can hear it rumbling like a washing machine. Got hot and cold sweats straight away as well but im happy I had something. My stomach worries me cause im scared I might have ulcers as well. Got an appointment for gastroskopy and colonoskopy in 2 weeks. Im so scared ,I cant stop thinking about colonoskopy , I know its with sedation but some peoole say its painful and they cant even say it cause they under concious sedation. Had gastroskopy before I had gall bladder removed so this doesnt bother me as much. And Ive got MRI on wendesday for my back. Had to reschedule it before cause I got panic attack before and they dont give any sedatives and im claustrophobic. But needs to be done...........now just laying on sofa after food....
