the first oral surgeon i went to recommended it and i am now thinking this may be a good idea. I believe its similar to a scraping where it stimulates new cell generation and heals the damaged tissue.
Haven't heard of that as a treatment option, but sounds tempting to try. I wonder how painful that would be...
Can't say I've come across this in all the research I've done but sounds interesting. If you have anymore info from your surgeon, it would be interesting to read it.
yeah its not common but makes sense to me. There are some publications online about it. My mothers friend had severe ulcerations that prevented her from eating and she became very sick. she eventually went for a scraping and it fixed the problem. the laser seems like a less invasive and painful way to remedy this problem
Hello Jason, I don't believe that there is much discomfort with laser treatment. I know they are now using this for lichen sclerosis for women in the private areas with some success. Laser does deep repair below the skin layers with severe acne cases also...so I would say that there is a good chance that it could help or even heal OLP. If you follow through with it please let us know how it turns out for you. I would be totally willing to try this myself and will talk to my periodontist about it at my next visit.

My Consultant is considering laser treatment if the prescibed steroid mouthwash does not work. Dependent on the severity of OLP, the treatment would involve visiting hospital each alternate day for 2/3 weeks. The procedure is entirely painless I'm told.
I haven't had any dr., dentist or peridontist suggest it. Currently I am taking mycophenolate to keep it in check, and it helps but doesn't get rid of it. I am seeking alternatives because i want to get off this medication in the next year. I've already been on it two years. I'd be interested in your results, as well.
