I have had major anxiety for the last month. It is the worst it has ever been. I have struggled with anxiety for 8 years. So, now my arms and legs are sore. I have read that anxiety can cause muscle pain. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I am freaking out! My arms and legs have never been sore before.
Don't worry, i'm dealing with the worst anxiety right now, and my body feels so sore and tired.
Thank you. I didn't realize anxiety could cause this. I hope you start to feel better soon.
Hi there,
I have also had this. It was awful while it lasted, which was about six weeks. It got so bad that walking from the sitting room to the kitchen felt like I was climbing Mount Everest, then my arms were so sore, I actually burst into tears when I tried to stir something i was cooking for dinner.
But don't despair, honey. It went away and after that six weeks of it, which was about seven years ago, it has only come back intermittentally, and only lasted an hour or so when it DID come back.
I remember being on holiday with my whole family (husband, four grown children and our daughter's husband) and we went grocery shopping. Suddenly, in the car park, my legs were so painful that I had to stand still, send the kids into the store, and have my husband go and get the car so that I could VERY SLOWLY get into it, with his help. That was four years ago and it only lasted about an hour that day.
So try not to worry, This soreness/pain is part of the general anxiety disorder and it will go away by itself.
If it's bothering you a lot, see your doctor for a check-up and also to get some pain medication.
Love Tess xx
Yes, I am experiencing this from last 2 years.
Yip I have same my whole body aches it's horrible
Yep, muscle tension goes with the territory. Try massages, stretching or yoga for some relief. A hot bath might also provide some relief.
Hi, I am taking a low dose of Citalopram for anxiety and have suffered with it for years. I also have had aching arms and legs and shaky legs too. However, I recently had some blood tests done and the result was Vitamin D deficiency. I did some research on this and found that it causes muscle and bone aches as well as making anxiety worse. I am now taking vitamin d supplements prescribed by my GP. It may be worth you looking into this.
Yep, I get very sore muscle aches and pains when my anxiety is high. Soak in Epsom salts and try massage, it helps aching joints as well as anxiety
Muscle pain can be connected to anxiety I'm quite certain. I have lots and lots of body aches and have lots of anxiety. Deep muscle massage has helped me sometimes. I do have thyroid issues and that can cause muscle aches too.
When we are anxious we have a tendency to tense our muscles which can cause muscle tension.
Hi. I don't suffer myself, but my partner has suffered with Anxiety for 20 years.
He too experienced sore muscles, he actually did some research and asked about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. They referred him to a specialised CFS Clinic and he was diagnosed with this. He attended about 8 weeks of classes and came out as a new person. It is very closely linked with Anxiety. Please speak to you doctor about this, I really hope you get sorted. I've seen what Anxiety is like on the other side, and I would dread to have it myself. But it's not the end of the world, there is help available. you just need to know where and who to turn to. Take Care xx
Glad he's doing better!! I was unaware they even had classes for CFS
So am I, but he has really bad health anxiety, so when he gets a certain pain he thinks it's something sinister. Waiting for tests is like waiting for xmas sometimes! He won't be better until he's been tested and has seen himself there's nothing wrong. He's currently wwaiting for a colonoscopy as he's had pains in his abdomen/bowel area for 8 weeks. A guy on here said to turn off wifi at night, and believe me when I say we did that last night and the night before and he's not had the severe pains....wierd or just our imagination...I don't know.
Yeah CFS....you will have to ask the doctor about it, they don't discuss it as you know doctors like to make things better with pharmaceutical drugs...which my partner doesn't like using, as it just masks the problem, not fix it. I wish doctors offered more alternative therapy rather than push tablets. xx
Ahh went into moderation. Go and chech with your doctor for a referral to a nurologist to rule out fibromylegia.
I visited the doctor because i had terrible jaw pain!! Thats what actually caused my anxiety!! He said it was nothing, my jaw doesn't hurt anymore and my body doesn't feel sore. My muscles were just stressed. Don't worry and btw do you feel better?
Yes I'm dealing with it now and have been for quite a while , right now its my upper back very sore and tight and painful , before it was my shoulders neck and back of my head , which I still get that as well
I am buying Epsom salts today and I have a massage scheduled on Saturday. Thank you!
I am still sore but reading everyone's comments help. Normally if I have a pain i go to the doctor. When I am told I am fine the pain goes away. The mind is so powerful! I am going to take Epsom salt baths and I have a massage scheduled for Saturday. I hope it helps.
Yeah it's crazy!! It will definitely help, good luck
