Awaiting hysterectomy due to years of abnormal smears

Hi all ,

Ive been following this site for a few weeks and have found it very helpful .Im due to have a hysterectomy due to 10 years of abnormal smears , i have an appointment with my consultant on Tuesday to decided what type of hysterectomy im having after she has seen my results from an internal scan i had , im hoping for keyhole as reading all the posts on here seems the better recovery but it all depends on what the scan results are ,I was just wondering if any of you ladies had internal scan first before they decided on what hysterectomy they gave you.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post

Morning Jackie,

I had an abdomial due to the size of my fibroids I am doing very well with my recovery

Good luck for Tues

Hi Jackie.

I had an internal scan and was then diagnosed with adenomyosis.  At my consultation my surgeon said she would do abdominal surgery due to size of my uterus and the fact she was removing everything. That was 3 weeks ago and I am healing well.

Let us know how you get on

I had internal scan before as I was post menopausal and I was having bleeds they found cancer so they decided to do a hysterectomy which luckily they could do by keyhole I'm now 8 weeks post op and going back to work as a courier Tuesday the 5th of May and because I had cancer which has all been removed I have to have check ups every four months for at least two years .hope you get keyhole but they won't know usually til they open you up and put the camera in

Thanks for replying Teresa I have read some of your post and you seem to be doing well hope you keep getting stronger .

Hi Poppy glad to hear your healing well . Il know on Tuesday hopefully I have a tilted womb not sure if that makes any difference. But im just glad im finally putting an end to my years of worry . After having 3 leetz and numerous biopsy she decided this was best way forward as my abnormalities are always can 3 . Will let you know how I get on thanks for replying .

I have a tilted womb too Jackie but it didn't make a difference.

Good luck xx

Hi lyn I really hope I get key hole as I dont want to be of work too long and the thought of not been active for 6 weeks plus worries me. But I have to think of my health im having my ovaries out too so instant menopause and I can't take hrt due to breast cancer in my family. Cant say im looking forward to it but to not have anymore worries regarding my smears and results after 10 years will be a relief. Hope your return to work goes well.

Thanks and keep in touch to let us know how things go

Hi. Depending on your age even with history of breast cancer in family I was told could still have hrt as replacing what should have anyway but reduce down at normal menopause age but if ovaries are fine they should keep them in. I'm having whole lot gone on 6th all via lap and also have tilted womb. I had investigatory op as well as scans first. I have smears every year as abnormal results but I'm not sure if cervix is going for definite but I'm sure it will be. Good luck with appointment. Write all questions down as if you're like me you'll forget when you in there.

Hi

my mum had breast cancer. I am on HRT but told I had to give up at age 55. I am willing to take risk. I feel great on HRT.

My cervix is away as well as ovaries. No more smear tests. Yay

Hi Jakie

Welcome to the forum, you will find it really helpfull. I had 2 internal scans to determine the size of my fibroids, it really is nothing to worry about and they are painless. I had an abdominal hysterectomy on 9th april had 3 nights in hospital and I am rcovering well at home now.

Keep us updated with your treatments and all the best for your scan.

Hi Jackie

Good luck for Tuesday.  I didn't have a scan before my hysterectomy but I did have some right at the beginning when I first found something coming down my vagina and ran all the way to the doctors, he! he! I laugh about it now but it frightened the hell out of me!  My Bladder and my Bowel had gone left and came down and were pressing on each other, very uncomfortable.  Had my hysterectomy on Good Friday and my surgeon was wonderful.  He has fixed everything and he even put my womb back in place.  Very strange I know but he said it was in such fantastic condition for a 65 year old woman that it would have been terrible just to throw it away.  Also as I had done such a lot of work on self help retraining the bladder etc he thought he would go the extra mile for me.  Apparently having the womb in place helps to stop any prolapses in the future, so fingers crossed!

I had the vaginal hysterectomy as my surgeon is a great fan of it, he will only do the abdominal way if he has to.

Let  us know how you get on, on Tuesday and what your consultant decides.

Love

Jacqui

Sorry my predictive text is spelling every thing wrong Nikki xx

Hi Jackie

I had a tilted womb also, but had to have abdominal hysterectomy after my ablation failed. My surgeon only does vaginsl hysterectomy if you're in your 60-70s as she said any earlier can cause a prolapse later in life due to the pulling. Key hole is an easier recovery but not all surgeons do it. Good luck for Tuesday!
