Awful Stomach Pain

I have MS an have just in April had my 2nd yearly treatment for inflammation.  Last year ended me in the hospital due to diarrhea and severe throwing up.  Since then gut pain so bad I have been on anti acid pills for the last 9 months.  Not working really.  Many trips to hospital and Drs with no answers.  Had a colonoscopy came up clear. Ct scan, stomach xray. Nothing!  I have a stomach scope coming up in Sept.  I dread getting up in the morning as it starts all over again.  Burning stomach is brutal.  Just tried Buscopan this am.  Feeling like I am wrung out.  I go from major constipation to diarrhea.  I am on Coconut water, Aloe Vera juice and Probiotics.  Haven't had red meat in over a year.  Lots of veggies, chicken and salmon.  Lots of water and lots of fruit  Trying small amounts of yogurt twice a day and can't live with out bananas.  Not a happy camper.

Any suggestions out there?

I am newly diagnosed with IBS, is that what you think you have?  If so Google Monash University they have a ton of info on what to eat and not eat.  Hoping you feel better soon.

Sounds like IBS.

So sorry to hear of your bad time. I have tried Buscopan for severe cramps (like bad period pains) and it has helped, though takes a couple of hours to kick in and then the effects only last for a few hours. After years of having various tests and different medications, my GP has put me on Nortriptyline which is marketed as an antidepressant but has been shown to help with IBS. After just one week I've seen a definite improvement  -  my early mornings were always a bad time but getting better now.  If you Google this drug you'll see lots of positive comments.  Probably doesn't help everyone of course, but worth a try. Good luck to you.

Hi carol, have you tried an antacid daily as it could be all the acid that's done the most damage. Speak to your chemist or doctor because you have ms I don't know what drugs you can have.

Hey carol sorry you have to go through this...I would suggest you should also book your appointment with a good naturopath...As naturopathy helped me in my IBS...As you also have MS, I believe naturopathy works better on chronic inflammatory conditions

Hi Sam,  I was on a proton pump inhibitor for 9 months.  Didn't make a difference.  Thanks for your help!

Hi jello, Thanks for your input.  I may look into your suggestion.  How do you feel it helped?  Can you share?  Thank you

Hi Rosalind,  So nice to hear some opinions and suggestions.  My sister has Celiac and swears Buscopan is Gold for her.  I'm not in agreement for me.  I have been on Nortriptyline but years ago.  I'm taking Citalopram.  I appreciate the info and will have a Google.

Hi Anne, thanks so much for your interest.  I will take a look!  A specialist thinks it may be IBS have not been diagnosed yet.  I'm sure open to any info

Can you say more about your experience with a naturopath, I am curios as I have just been diagnosed with IBS and have been following the FODMAP diet which doesn't seem to be working?

Hey Carol I was only diagnosed by a general practitioner  not a gastro Dr.  But I did enough research to recognize the symptoms which started before I identified what was happening.  I too am looking at any alternatives as I don't seem to be responding to the FODMAP diet.

I was fascinated by your comments too, info please!!!

That’s strange,  Buscopan takes fifteen minutes to work for me.

Hi Carol, ooph not those things they're deadly and i would never recommend them, they wrecked my health!

Hello carol, Anne and Sam...Thank you for trusting... as you have asked about my experience with naturopath...I will start this with the beginning...As I was just diagnosed with IBS and I was prescribed all the IBS medications as we all know by my gasteroenterologist and sertralin by my MD physician as he believed mind and gut is connected....As I come from medical background I know that for any chronic diseases, We have to take the medications life long As we are not able to eliminate the cause...

Then one of my sister's friend, whose Aunt had ulcerative colitis and she was not getting better with conventional treatment, She tried a naturopath (Ayurvedic Doctor)....And my sister's friend suggested her to me...God bless her...My Ayurvedic doctor As I went there, checked my pulses and described all of my symptoms without me being described...I was amazed as some of those things even my physician could not answer and she could...And so I could trust her easily...She counselled me for 2 hours and gave me soooo many medicines to take for 2 years..I left her place happily and within 3 days of starting those medications I could see the difference...and slowly i stopped my allopathy medicine and continued with her medication....

But with that I continued my sertralin( antidepressant),Vitamin D and vitamin b12 supplements and Ayurvedic medications....All of my symptoms resolved..with my food diary i realized I still can't tolerate wheat so still avoid that and that makes me feel so light....  but the crucial thing is you should find some credible naturopath doctor with whom people have experience and they have treated those cases, not just anyone...And believe me that is a crucial thing..

With all of these I started doing yoga and meditation with some renounced yoga teachers and believe me as I changed my thoughts from negative to positive, my medicines could work better with minimal side effects...

I am myself a doctor and preparing for my post gratuation, One thing I have learned in these cases especially chronic diseases is where to combine what...you should have that wisdom, As I took sertralin for certain period of time to reset my systems and then slowly moved on to more natural resources.....

As I took a break, surrounded my self with loved ones and worked on myself to think positively and in correct direction It changed me as a whole in a more positive way...

Another thing carol , there is research on MS and vitamin D deficiency...So please look into that....And if anything anyone wants to ask me I am happy to give my experience and also learn from them too.

Hi Sam,  Yes I have tried tums on a daily basis as well and don't seem to feel any different. Thanks

Hi jello, your information is the best I've ever seen, my doctors have over 10 years tried every which way to dump me non stop on antidepressants rather than get to the route cause of the difficulties I have. I am fed up of them, I decided a while ago when I was really ill to offer massage, reflexology and other therapies to people as a viable business to make money but also to try to help myself. I get sick and tired of taking all my medication, I want to tip it all down the sink some days. I love all my essential oils and swear by them. I will search and see if I can find s naturopath. I'm after anything to improve my shattered immunity. It worsened after I took nexium (that drug should be banned). Thank you so much.

Hey Sam...Thank you for acknowledging and I am happy that you are considering to consult a naturopath....I understand your dilemma and being in this profession sometimes I get angry and frustrated towards the system where everyone is competing with everyone and in proving who is the best we often forget the wellness of the people who really in need....And most of the times we focus on symptoms rather the cause of the symptoms....

Sam, I wish you find the appropriate naturopath for your self as it is very important...But being in this profession I understood one thing is that you can't just treat one system and make patients better rather it is whole body and mind which is to be treated

Hi jello, I hope I can find someone else to treat me rather than my present doctor who keeps chucking more tablets at me putting more cash in to the pharmaceutical companies pockets. I am fed up of drugs! I want some natural things in my system. I think I will look at herbalists or naturopaths. Thanks.😍😎
