Backward Step

I am 18 days post op and was doing well until yesterday when I got into the car and had a terrific pain in my joint. After a few deep breaths it settled down and I was able to get out at the other end, the pub! The same thing happened on the return journey. I have been in the car several times following the rules of getting in and out. Then last night in bed whilst asleep I had two big jerks which had me reeling in pain again. All is well this am but I am back to square one on the raising knee exercise whilst standing next to a bar, only about 30 % bend. I really hope I haven't blown this. Anyone else experienced this, advice and reassurance welcome.

Not 18 days, 24 days...I can't count either !

Whaaat !!  Where have you read get in a car at 18 days???

STOP eight weeks POSSIBLY try it -  get onto nhs for post op exercises and dos and don't s and follow regime.

if pain persists go to A and E and tell them what u have done, take the lecture, and get an X-ray to ensure all is right.

Blimey I know the olympics just finished but no gold for being the fastest to get better if you dislocate because of it

with love and best wishes you have got away with it, dot

I don't know asdip - I would check in with my GP or surgeon.

Please read posts by Linda 81469 who dislocated her hip recently and could still walk. She needed another surgery.

You might just be feeling a muscle that was cut during surgery and now complaining with this move, but far better to be safe than sorry.

I hope this is just moral recovery - take care.

Normal recovery!

Hi I am also 18 days post LHR and have been in and.out the car daily as a passenger I put a cushion on the seat to raise it and yes followed all precautions and had no probem .. it maybe muscular but as advised see ur Dr to reassure you . As 52 I am maybe slightly younger than some and used to run prior to the hip pain so all people differ but I don't need any sticks etc have seen.physio and now don't need to see him again. Until the day I go back to work .. 7 weeks.post surgey .. It has to be remembered we all have different ages ,pre hip fitness levels and other comorbidities to contend with ..also expectations , mine was just my hip therefore maybe that is one reason as well as an excellent surgeon. That i was able.to walk unaided and walk upstairs etc so quickely. It's not worth taking any risk s the first 6 weeks best to follow restrictions and.physio advice however fustrating so your hip last s a good 30 years hopefully .. I would check.insurance as mine won't let me be covered for driving until 6 week review and consultant states ok to drive again ..UK .

I see how that read!! I was a passenger! This morning I have been for a small painless walk and it loosened things up again and the bending is a bit easier, I have also just had a two hour sleep which has made everything look and feel brighter.

Thank you xx ( and its 24 days post op)

Thank you Fiona,

i am a little further on, 24 days, when I wrote the post I was also quite sleepy, it appears my brain needs to reconnect as well!

I was the passenger in the car, my first trip out other than to the physio's and GP's.

After a short walk, gentle exercising and a two hour sleep things seem to be improving. I'm seeing the physio tomorrow.

Thanks for that, I'm off to search for Linda 81469 but after a bit of a sleep just now everything feels somewhat better, so perhaps it was just healing muscles and tissue complaining.

Guess they will check u out but only an xray will tell if hip in correct place .. dislocation is a concern though as a simple bend or twist can cause reading some of these reviews .. hope all is well tomorrow .

I was told no travelling even as a passenger, until I had my check up,which for me was 11 weeks.  I had to go hospital for a check at 3 weeks because of weeping wound but it was agony and I did not go back in a car until I was allowed.  So worried about damaging myself.  Didn't sit on low seats till then either.

Might be best just to get it checked for peace of mind if nothing else.

Hi there, I am 11 days post op. Two days ago walking with my stick and no pain, suddenly a terrific pain, made me very apprehensive. Thankfully nothing since, but it really does make you think what's happening here. Do hope you've had no more of this. Good luck.

Hi Fiona you mentioned physio did you have toask for it or just part of post op recovery ?

I've been told I won't get phys post op,think I'll end up payin for some . hugs

Hi Fiona, I paid for my op, when I came home rang my doc about physio . Receptionist got back to me and said that must come from consultant. So it seems if you pay for op then you have to pay for physio.

I was told not even to try and get in a car even as a passenger for at least six weeks it's not only the angle but the vivibration same reason that you don't try to get onto a bus.

do you really need a beer that urgently ?

Of course not, it was a lemonade with all the family!

No your GP can arrange community physio for you if u ring them you don't need to pay ..or ring your local hospitAl and they have physio out patients but still need a GP referral .. if u live in uk.

Must be different in different parts country .uk ?? Though should be the same unless your surgey was not straighforward ..I got in car the day after surgey to come home and put a cushion on seat to raise it and followed physio instructions for getting in and.out .. does you good to get out the house also and have a short walk or coffee with friends or family ..

Your gp should have a discharge letter from your consultant stating the surgery you had that should allow him to refer you to community physio .. also if you paid did your package not state you were to have physio following surgery I would ring consultant secretary and ask as here our pts get physio at least twice as part of their private package . Worth a try ..

The package included follow up consultation but no mention of physio, rang and asked my own GPs but reply came back that I would probably have to pay if that's what I want.
