Hi...I have posted before about this rash. I was diagnosed in March and have tapered the prednisone to 9 mg. Daily as of one week ago, I have had the rash about 4-5 days; it looks like severe prickly heat. The doctor today looked at all my meds, considered some kind of contact with grass..?.....food, soap, detergent, etc. We are trying Benedrl tablets and cream. Has anyone out there had a rash traced to the PMR and/or Prednisone? The itching is driving me crazy! Maybe I should, at the very least, go back to 10 mg pred to see if that helps. The rash is trying to spread...down my legs...across my chest, etc.
all ideas will be considered! Thank you!
p.s. Doctor did not really think it is the prednisone.
Hi Kathy,
I have been diagnosed with PMR since 2002 but I've had it a lot longer. I can no longer take prednisolone because I've had n early menopause and am at risk of osteoporosis.
I have been prescribed Portion in syrup form which helps with rash, also wearing and especially cotton underwear really helps (it sounds rediculous but wearing polyester makes the rash worse)!
Sorry it should say PIRITON not what it said its this stupid predictive text! PIRITON syrup really helps me because it reduces the inflammatory/allergic response and helps you sleep too.
My doctor also advised me to try wearing natural fibres instead of synthetics, it certainly helps when I'm experiencing a flareup daft as it sounds. In my case the prednisolon helped with my pain, but, although my doctor said prednisolone wasn't causing the rash I disagree. I know my own body! But then coffee and chocolate also disagree with me
The only things that got rid of the rash was after being diagnosed as Coeliac and coming off gluten - Then it stopped .....-
Hi Kathy in Jan this year i had got down to 5 ml preds but for 5 weeks i had itching all over my body it drove me mad i was having to get up in the night and have a cold shower to cool down some nights i took ice packs to bed so i could get some sleep dr threw the book at me with different creams and medication in the end he put my preds back up to 15 mls and within 4 days the itching had gone'hope you get to find some help withyour problem at the time dr did blood test witch showed my count had gone sky high hope this is any help to you .
Dear Kathy,
I dont know if this will help you, but I too come out with what looks like a heat rash, mainly on my arms, the inside of them also, sometimes a few on shoulders. I am not sure that it is the preds as I am on them also,,,My GP said it could be that I am allergic to grass seed and dust mites.
I find relief from Eurex Cream it stops itching for upto 10hrs and sometimes I use Eurex HP, both obtainable from the GP. I also have Loratadine tablets) anti histamine,0
Hope this helps
Kathy, has Psoriatic Arthritis been suggested? I have known people who have been diagnosed with PMR which has later been changed to a diagnosis of Psoriatic Arthritis. Quite possible to have both as well. The treatment would still be steroids, plus possibly Methrotrexate.
Are you taking enteric coated Pred? Another thought, often referred to by MrsK who posts here, is that sometimes the coating on the Pred can produce an allergy and when the coating is rinsed off the problem can resolve.
