Bartholins Cyst Absess

I'm 22 years old and I first noticed the bumb about a week ago and didn't think anything of it, it didn't hurt at first but it started to annoy me and I popped it. Now after researching what it is I realized that I shouldn't have popped it. But now it has swollen to twice the size and I'm in excruating pain. It hurts to walk, sit down, and lay down. And with me currently being on my period it's constantly rubbing up against my pad and making it worse. I have a Dr appointment next week but I need advice on how to make this pain bareable until then. Please help me.

Hellooo , and i has the same problem but i have used aloe vera gel and for 2 days the bartholini cyst go!!!

sitz bath with salts....long soakers. it will help draw out the cyst. Which will ease the pain.

Go to an urgent care and see if they cant help you. If it is infected your going to need to be seen sooner. I have not personally had an infected cyst only a cyst but, I have read tons and tons on these things. They seem to be unbarable and then eventually pop on their own. Sitz baths and pain medication should help you. Having the cyst drained is your best bet. Im so sorry youre going through this. I had by bartholins gland and cyst removed and prior to that I had the same one lanced and drained twice. Good luck.

I feel your pain as my cyst turned into an abscess really quickly and I couldn't walk, sit etc so went to gp after a few days of just hoping it would go away and was sent straight to hospital to have it looked at. It's a horrible process and embarrassing as its 'down there' but I'd seriously advise if you are in pain to get an emergency appt with your gp! Don't wait till next week, my pain developed so fast don't sit in pain if you don't have to. Xx

I know this site is based in the UK but I'm from the United States and my female doctor is a whole town away like about almost an hour drive. And I will have the money next week I don't have it right now as I don't have insurance at the moment.

The hospitals and Urgent Care places in my town don't have gynos to look at this stuff plus I'm on my period this week so I'm not sure they would look while I'm on my period.

I don't know what a Sitz bath is..??

Did it burn any because I have tried using neosporen and it started burning.

I really feel for you as I have quite a good pain threshold and mine just got worse as the days went on, I have read a lot about people using Epsom salts on a cloth against the area and also using them in the bath to help with the pain however if it's an abscess you will prob need antibiotics too. I really hope you get some relief soon xx

Also when I got my second one I had my period and it made no difference to the gp or the gynae Doctor who saw me xx

Lots of sitz bath then and something for pain. After surgery I couldnt find a comfortable position at all. I dont honestly think that the doctors would care about your menstural cycle. They are there to help. I went to the ER the first round and didnt see a gyno, just a general physician. I am also in the US. Again, Good Luck to you. I hope you get through this and your pain eases.

I wasn't sure if they would see me ..I've always made my appointments after my cycle was done because I was never sure if they would see me. I will try Epsom salt bath and I know I will probably need antibiotics but I will have to wait until I go to the doctor. Though from yesterday when it started hurting to today it's grown like twice the size. All the research I have done says it grows slowly but it hasn't for me. If I had the money right now to go I would. But the hospital or Doctor won't except me without money unless it life or death. So I will just have to wait it out until then.

What's a Stiz bath?

Also will they have to keep me in the hospital? And will I be able to drive after the surgery or do I need to bring someone with me sense it's almost an hour drive away?

Because I have already told my husband, and he said he doesn't know if he wants to go because he don't want to have to wait forever in the waiting room, but if I'm going to need someone to drive me home I'll make him come with me.

Warm shallow water. Epsom salt works well too. Sit for about 15 minutes as often as you can.

If you have surgery you need someone with you. If they lance and drain it you should be fine. They will give you a shot in the area where they cut it to drain then they put in a cathater that will allow it to drain further. It is supposed to stay in for like a week or something but mine fell out in two days. Then it healed and came back months later.

Ok thank you soo much!!

Most likely they wont do the surgery right then and there. I had mine drained twice within a year and a half  before they did surgery and I have heard many stories of women waiting for years before they will do it. It depends on your doctor. I would expect it to be drained.

When I got it drained first time I had a balloon catheter inserted and I couldn't sit down for about three days as it was quite painful and uncomfortable and the second time I had surgery to have marsupialisation so I would recommend having someone there with you to a) hold your hand as its not pleasant to go through it alone and b) drive you home as you will be in some discomfort. I took my friend with me xx
