bartholins cyst and my period?

I developed an infected bartholins cyst suspected from a yeast infection and urine infection. What I wanted to know was ive come onto my period and wether I should be worried about further infection during this time, if anyones had experience and any steps I should take? I do not use tampons due to painful insertation from an ongoing painful bladder syndrome.

Hi Emsy,

I had 2 periods with a Bartholins cyst that lasted for a whole 2 months.  Nothing happened except that I noticed it did get a little bit bigger when I was on my period and what bothered me was that I could not do the sitz bath. Other than that everything remained the same fortunately. By fortunately, I mean the cyst had not come to a head so I did not have to deal with nor worry about the cyst getting infected. That was actually my worry.  I would suggest that you clean the area with hydrogen peroxide if your cyst has come to a head and get back to doing the sitz baths ASAP. Good luck.

I dont have my mens anylonger since Ive had a hysto, but I will say two things.. 1. If you can see the "head" of this cycts, you need to make certain that you are doing a sitz bath at least once daily to clean it, 2. get a water bottle and clean it every single time you go to the rest room, and change you pads on a very regular basis, the cleaner the area the less likely you will get additional issues. Im sorry you are dealing with this and obviously other problems too sad get well!

My cyst got inflamed when I used tampons so since I had the ablation therapy and I do not have much of a flow I do not use tampons any more it made my cycst huge like a tennis ball!!! i would stay away form them.  I think they harbour bacteria and yeast.  especiall like me where I do not have much of  a flow.

Im so happy I just actually called my doc because I had the word cath and it had healed so quickly that the balloon was pushing up against the small incision and was tearing it and it hurt so bad, i called my OB surg and she was like you can do one of 2 things, a-come in and we will drain it and take out the cath or you can cut the tip off and it will drain and you can pull it out yourself, it shouldn't be painful to do, just be careful clearly, you have a sharp object near your vagina, lets not break it any more than it already is, so I told her i would do it, i work at a hospital anyway, so i grabbed gloves, stirle everything ran to the bathroom and cut that thing and sure enough it drained super fast and i was able to just slightly tug and it came out, and let me tell you the instant relief was unreal..praise jesus, after almost 3 weeks of a word cath, I feel like a whole new woman, now lets just pray it doesn't return, sad

I wish you the best and hopefully you heal fast and never ever again have to deal with it. I honestly wouldn't wish this upon anyone.neutral
