I was very constipated and still I am having medication for Bile Acid Malabsorption. I saw a Consultant at the Royal Marsden Hospital after my rectal cancer. And he scanned me for BAM, I was less than 7. Unfortunately the Consultant has moved but told me not to trust anyone regarding this. Strange all what I hear from the medical profession is that I have no diarrhoea so no Bile Acid Malabsorption. I think they have not looked deeper into this. I have got IBS-C constipation with not enough Bile in my intestines to set of the movement of the intestines. And me too the Doctors told me for 40 years it was IBS eat a lot of fibre. I am on 45 gram of fat a day as I intermittent problems with digesting fat.
Hey carola, sorry you have to suffer through this.....Did they find out the cause of bile acid malabsorption? As symptomatically if bile cannot be absorbed then it can cause fat soluble vitamin deficiencies and that may contribute to IBS-C...As when my IBS-C started, with that I was deficient of vitamin D...But there was no problem in my bile acid absorption...But did they tell you why can't you absorb your bile?
Hi carol I'd switch doctors and insist on a second opinion! If you can't get any joy contact your practice manager, you can't leave this, I think this is vital to your health. Let us know what your doctor or the manager says.
Hi, yes I know that the problem is in the Ileum after Chemoradiation for rectal cancer.
Back again, did they do a SeCAT scan for Bile Acid Malabsorption with you?
Hey, Carola...No they did not do SeHCAT for bile acid malabsoption....They only checked fecal bile acid excretion...But they did my ileum biopsy where they couldn't find any structural abnormality in my absoption...3 months later I got checked with my vitamin D levels again when I was on supplements and it got significantly higher...But one thing in my case although I tested negative for gluten sensitivity, I still can't tolerate it...and whenever i eat something containing wheat, I don't feel comfertable in my stomach...So I usually avoid that
Maybe you have non celiac gluten intolerance.
