I have active Crohn's at the moment and the last couple of weeks my eyes have become really blurry and I am getting headaches as a result.
I have read that blurry eyes can be a symptom of Crohn's disease. Has anyone got any advice? I can hardly see through my contact lenses!
Hi
Yes, crohns effects my eyes during bad glares too. Really sore & blurry... the joy of this disease xx
Hiya,
Thanks for your response! How long does this last for you? I'm not sure whether to see my optician or not as I'm struggling to see through my contact lenses at work. I'm computer based as well so my eyes are getting even dryer!
xx
Hi Penelope
Although I have had CD for over 50 yrs and worked in IT with computers for over 45 yrs luckily for me I have not had the problem with eyes (apart from needing glasses) but I know that with CD you get a lot of problems due to vitamin deficiency and dehydration as your gut is not absorbing food and water well. Always good to see an optician as cataract will cause blurry vision. Good luck.

I would see my optician but also mention it to my IBD nurse as they may need to look at your crohns meds... my eyes get sore on & off but I wear glasses. May be an idea to switch to glasses if you can for the time being...
I will mention it at the IBD clinic next week. I got diagnosed a few weeks ago so its my first appointment next week!
Thank you for your reply! It just seems to be symptom after symptom at the moment its so frustrating
yes crohns will affect the eyes like most of the stomach disorders do . for example evern constipation will have an affect on your vision and will give you blinding headaches too . you can mention this to your physician but really you must find some relief medicines for the disease . there are many helpful medicines now on market and steroids are beginning to play a huge role in treatment also ongoing research into some of the long term treatments like salofalk etc wil give more prolonged relief . but the thing is to keep up to date on all aspects of this debilitating disease and by keeping you self updated on treatments etc you will find you can manage this much better .
Thanks for your response! So my eyes should get better once I start treatment properly?
