Both knees hurt after walking unaided

Almost 6 weeks post TRHR. Have been walking unaided for the past few days with little or no limp. Carry a cane with me and use only as needed. However by the end of the day  both of my knees hurt. Is this because I am walking differently? Any thoughts from others who have experienced a similiar pain? And when will the pain in my knees go away? Thanks as usual to all who respond to me.

Hi Scout, sorry to say I think that you are waddling along, putting more sideways stress on the knees than you should, get back on the stick on the opposite side to the operated side and keep your body more upright when walking for a few more walks out, I am pretty sure thats what it is....Keep in touch   Ian.

I didn't notice that. You might be just tenseing up your knees. Try to relax

Hope you get it sorted out.

I think maybe 6 weeks is too early to be off the stick for most of the day. Try using it more and take the weight off your knees to see if that helps.

A few weeks ago my knee got sore too but it has corrected itself. It's unlikely you've damaged both knees permanently at the same time but is something to do with the extra stress. So take the stress off for a while. And make sure when you walk you're walking heel toe and using your butt muscles for strength.

I only came home today and all I want to is sleep uk

hi scout ..

I agree with other comments -

We have to learn how to walk again after a long time  of compensating to avoid pain - I know I walked hunched over and lob sided and out of habit, I think, started to walk the same way after THR surgery - DIdn;t get rid of this because I needed THR on other hip -

I am in the process of walking properly now and oh boy !!!!!  it seems like it takes forever ... (9 weeks post-op of 2nd THR)-

make sure that you are in balance - and like Kikeena says, heel to toe steps -

My knees were hurting so badly too - it is a lot better now, but tbh, other muscles are , well, sore !!!!

one mindful step at a time, darling - taking your time with it ...

sounds you are doing great though !!!

big warm hug -

my phisio told me its because the hip muscle are very , week not enought power so the knees are taking the hole weight

can be different for you
