Brain fog, fatigue, and other symptoms for 1 month +

I've been experiencing strange symptoms lately.  I have been feeling a brain fog feeling on and off for the past month.  Some days are better than others, but the times when I find it's worse are at the end of the day or when I'm out with friends.  I also have been feeling very lethrgic and faigued.  Now I wake up after 9-10 hours of sleep and feel exhausted right out of bed.  When my brain fog is at it's worst, I find that my short term memory is terrible and I have difficulty speaking.  I couldnt see a doctor beause she was busy for the holidays, but I saw a nurse practioner and she thinks that it may be anxiety related.  I fact I used to have anxiety issuses when I was a child. I saw a therpist while my father was deployed in Iraq.  Now I am 19 and havent had any stress, so if it was anxiety, I don't know what could be causing it.  I have also had 4 concussions in the last 3 years and don't know if it could be related.  I finally saw my doctor yesterday and she said that she wants to rule out anything else before we start looking at anxiety.  She wants me to see a sports medicine specialist about my concussions.  I had a CT scan 9 months ago and found nothing wrong.  2 weeks ago I had blood work done and the only abnormality was a slightly elevated level of iron.  I take multivitamins every day, but they dont have iron.

That's close to how I started 2 yrs ago but also had body pain and it was diagnosed as fibromyalgia. With that being said Lyme can cause those symptoms also, including joint pain. Be diligent, I would also see a neurologist given the past head trauma. I now see a neuro to begin the process of hopefully ruling out als since symptoms have changed and progressed for me. I too had a concussion a little over 3 yrs ago and the fog and other symptoms began about a yr after the head trauma. Doesn't hurt to cober all bases.

Yeah I am going to see a Neurologist as soon as I can.  I dont have any mucsle or joint pain, but I often have a very stiff neck and sometimes get tingling in my arms or legs.

Good luck.. I've been at this since October. Started with a Lyme diagnoses, then anxiety and depression, now neurological.

My doctor said that she might test for Lyme if she can rule out other issues but what are the symptoms?

There are so many with Lyme. The brain fog is one, joint aches, vision can be impaired. The best site I've found with the list is the Canadian Lyme site. I'd say there are over 100 if not more. It's another issue because Lyme can mimic just about every illness. I had the western blot done and only had 1 positive tieter which is generally a negative.

Lyme is a good place to start!  Did you have tests for B12? Deficiency in that alone could cause your symptoms. See if you had a Coeliac panel, too. That could cause deficiencies that aren't often looked for, and my last question was about thyroid.  See if your bloodwork included thyroid levels, too...?

You don't mention what was in your blood tests, but please be sure those were done and came back normal...and for B12, not low-normal, because that's actually too low.  Look on the Pernicous Anaemia forum and you'll probably see what I mean!

Good luck! smile

They checked for anemia, thyroid, liver, kidneys and I'm not sure what else, but she said everything was normal except for the slightly elevated iron levels.

Good to know it's none of those! You may want to ask directly about b12, just in case it wasn't checked.

I've been bitten by ticks several times growing up as a kid playing in the woods, but I'm 19 now and I can't remeber the last time I was bitten by a tick.

It can take months to years to have symptoms, sometimes they are mild and mistaken for cold or flu.
